MediaMonkey Online

Post by riderfab »

Hello all,

In the FAQ, we can see how to use MM in a shared environment, ie having access to the music collection stored on a local hard drive (the server) from different computers (the terminals) of the local network.

Would it be possible to imagine the same solution available not on a local network but through Internet. At home you keep your computer with your music collection on, and you can have access to your music on any terminal connected to Internet.

A step further would be to offer the user the possibility to store his music collection not on a "home made server" but on a real server (always online, safer, faster transmission).

I am making these suggestions because I see more and more music streaming solutions : deezer, radioblog, and now the beta version of explorasound (which seems to have a great potential). However, all these solutions have a big weakness, they do not offer even 10% of MM's ergonomy for organising the music (folders, stars, key words.. autoplaylists..).
If you add this possibility to use MM online..I guess it is definitly the best.

Lowlander was working on something like you described, here.

Do not think that he has done anything with it for a while and probably not compatible with MM3.

Not the answer that you are looking for, but worth a look.

Thks drjboulder,

I checked your link : too bad that lowlander stopped it, because it was exactly what I was looking for.

I am surprised that this idea of having MM online has so few threads on the forum, because it is for me one of the best feature you could add.

Yeah, the old WebMonkey doesn't work with MediaMonkey 3 and as such it's no longer developed. I'm considering to start with a new one from scratch for MediaMonkey 3.

You can still use WebMonkey by using a separate install for MediaMonkey 2.x to build the database needed by WebMonkey.

I just need to get my feet wet on SQLite, but I'm a bit hesitant so far as I don't like working with databases too much.

That's impossible as MP3 is an audio format and PNG is an image format. Are you sure you don't mean a different format?
