Pre-Sales FLAC to MP3 Conversion question

Post by jabadoodle »

I have the free version but it's past it's 30 day trial.

I have a lot of FLAC files that I need to convert to MP3.

Two questions:

1: How reliably does MM convert FLAC to MP3.

The program I have now (SoundTaxi) sometimes creates MP3s with slight sound errors in them. Seems to happen when CPU is in use doing other things. ~ Will MM have the same problem?

2: Does MM copy the Meta-Data tags as it does the conversion?

I don't use this feature often so I can't really help out with your questions, but it isn't necessary to upgrade to Gold if you just want to encode mp3's.

From the FAQ:
Knowledgebase wrote:Fortunately, the free LAME MP3

encoder is available in a variety of locations on the internet, and users can

switch to the standard version of LAME if they wish to avoid upgrading to the

Gold version of MediaMonkey by replacing the included LAME encoder.
Here is the link for the LAME mp3 encoder:
http://lame.sourceforge.net/download.php

That being said, Gold is still worth much more than the price for all of its other features, but at least this way you can test that the mp3 encoding does what you want it to before buying.

Thanks very much for taking the time to post that.

I'm going to try it out.

I'm only just getting into my project organizing my music. But if I keep using MM I'm sure I'll buy the gold. $20 isn't much to support somthing if I use it.

Many Thanks.

The file you'll need to download can actually be found here:
http://www.rarewares.org/mp3-lame-bundle.php

Sorry for not posting that earlier. I didn't realize that I was linking you only to the source code. After you download the 3.97 version (which is a zip file), just extract the folder and replace lame_enc.dll in your Program Files\Mediamonkey\ folder with the one that you downloaded.
