Embedding metadata on a WAV file????

Post by draudio2u »

Hello,
I need to embed WAV files with metadata containing Artist, Title, ISRC etc.... Can this be done with MM and if so, do I need to convert to BWF?
Thank you.

So then how do you "tag" this data on the WAV file? I am not finding the "to-do" menu option, only "Auto Tag" functions. :-?

Its done by default when making metadata changes in the track properties.

To force tagging you can use Tools > Advancanced Tag Management > Synchronize Tags, but as Nohitter151 said this is done by default when editing the tags inside MediaMonkey.

I hope this doesn't count as hijacking, but I want to ask this question concerning metadata on wav files: Does it harm the audio data? because WAV's originally don't support tags. I also think when converting flacs to wav's the headers are removed/shrunk, could it be destructive in that case to tag the wav files?

Answers:
1. WAV Support Tagging as of 1995 when MS made description RIFF Format (AVI, WAV, ...) but due the nature of problem lots of apps introduced own TAG format into WAV

2. No, Audio Data should be untouched and tag data will be correctly build by RIFF standard in MediaMonkey.

c) FLAC tag format is much better format than WAV Tagging so not all fields supported in FLAC tags are supported in WAV Tags

Good to hear that WAV tagging is supported to some extent. I am impressed with MM's tagging capabilities. I would, however, like to see more advanced support for BWF tagging. In particular, I would like to be able to recusively modify Originator, OriginatorReference, CodingHistory, and Description fields. If, for example, I have a folder containing 1000 folders full of .wav files, I would like to be able to select the folder and have MM copy the filename to the OriginatorReference tag and fill the Originator tag with a given text string.
