Ripping (then linking) FLAC files to MM's Virtual CD

Post by familyman »

Hello all!

I downloaded MediaMonkey trial today and added one CD to the Virtual CD. I also ripped its tracks to FLAC at the same time. Then I removed the CD - and great - I now know I can play the ripped FLAC files in MM without inserting the CD.

Three questions though...

1. I cannot find the ripped FLAC files on my HDD. Where does MM store the ripped FLAC files?

2. I've read in the forums here http://www.mediamonkey.com/forum/viewto ... ac#p208648, that I should rip to FLAC using EAC, rather than MediaMonkey, "to get great error checking on the read during the rip".

This brings me to question #2:

If you...

1. Import all your CDs into MM...
2. But rip all the CD tracks to FLAC using EAC...

How do you link the FLAC files ripped with EAC, to the CD in the MM library/database/Virtual CD?

3. This question will probably be answered by #2's answer, but just in case... If I chose to rip tracks as *.wav files instead, how do you link those to MM's Virtual CD?

(As you can probably tell, I keep thinking there will be two separate track lists. One list for the CDs, a second for the EAC FLAC files - and I'm not understanding how (or if you can) link the two, if you rip the FLAC files externally to MM.)

Many years ago I wished for a program like MM. Wish I'd found it sooner!

Thanks for reading.

Hi familyman,

To answer some of your questions:

The directory where MM saves your VirtualCD files is customizable. You can check the location under Tools > Options. In the Options dialog, look for Library > VirtualCD & Preview.

I don't have any experience with this myself, but have you tried the following:
When browsing your album & tracks right click either an album in the treeview, or one or more tracks in the list. On the right-click pop-up menu, select Send To... > VirtualCD

Hope this helps.
