Rebuild device database for iPod Touch?

Post by Miggles »

I used to have a "Rebuild device database" option when I would right click on my iPod Touch. Now I can't find it - appears to have been completely removed? Running 3.2.0.1294.

I ask this because I'm using Ubuntu (AMD64) with x86 Windows XP SP3 in a Virtualbox guest and I've managed to lose space on iPod to "Other". I had it doing an autosync when everything got out of hand - completely unresponsive guest and host - so I had no choice but to kill the autosync. None of the tracks that had been copied over by that point show up on the iPod or in MediaMonkey when I view the contents of the device but iTunes reports all that space taken as "Other" and I'd rather like to get that space back (without having to reset the iPod back to factory settings and set everything up again).

It's not the first time this has happened, unfortunately, and if I keep having issues with this I either need to re-think Ubuntu or re-think the iPod touch. I'll seriously miss the games and apps but perhaps a Cowon S9 would treat me better. :)

as far as I know, the rebuild database has never been on the touch, it only appears on regular ipods.

I've had the same problem, the only way (I know how) to fix it is to restore from itunes.

Oh sod.

You're probably right. I used to have a Nano and it's quite likely I'm confusing the memories of which one had the option to rebuild the database.

At least now I know this lost space thing doesn't happen only to me.

Cheers.
