Dear friends,
I'm using Mediamonkey for playing music on my HTPC.
I've read that many people love the user interface (like me) but the sound is really bad (and it is)
It was a challenge for me to improve the sound of MediaMonkey as the one of MediaPortal or Kmplayer.
So here are the list of input and output plugins that will make your Mediamonkey sound GREAT:
1. For the input plugin, use the Thomson mp3PRO decoder. You will be able to hear a crisper sound on all your MP3 songs and MP3Pro Mp3's, if you have some on your pc.
You can find it here:
http://www.mp3prozone.com/download_winamp.htm
2. For the output plugin, you can use the AudioBurst FX System. Even without changing anything, you will hear a GREAT improvement in your sound.
You will feel that you changed your receiver for one that cost 2,000 USD...
This plugin can be downloaded here:
http://www.qolabs.com/audioburst/
3. Now the DSP... For better enhancement, you can download the GREAT equalizer Electi-Q.
It's a good equalizer but a bit hard to use.
The improvement on sound worth the time.
You can find it here:

Now you will enjoy from all the world of music, the great player Mediamonkey an the sound of Mediaportal.
Enjoy!
Ilan.

Re: How to make Mediamonkey sound better
can you tell how to make them work with mediamonkey?
Re: How to make Mediamonkey sound better
Thanks!
I was ready to dump my mp3 collection and start on flacs. The first two suggestions just took my listening experience with Mediamonkey to a different level. Will have to try the EQ soon.
I owe you one.

Re: How to make Mediamonkey sound better
Sorry but you got it mixed up.
Mediamonkey sound is exactly the same as any other media players.
And the interface is considered one of the weak points of Mediamonkey.
It's has been said many times that it looks outdated.
I didn't try the dsp and the eq plugins you linked.
But for the mp3pro decoder, it won't make any difference in sound.
There is no reason to use it unless your music is encoded in mp3pro.

Regarding the user interface, it's something personal.
You're right that it's a bit outdated but you can manage music easily.
What is the reason you use Mediamonkey?
About the mp3pro, maybe you're right but I could hear the difference.
I use MM because the UI is excellent for manage files, delete while you hear the file, etc.
The sound is terrible compared to many other players, again, for me.

Re: How to make Mediamonkey sound better
I thought I was crazy that my MM sound output sounded "worse" or "different" than Winamp or other interfaces. I thought my imagination was playing tricks on me. Perhaps they are playing tricks on us all?
Does anyone have a technical reply to this comment about sound quality?
I am curious. Since I seem to be hearing the same way as the poster above, I may try the modifications. However, it does seem to entail a lot of work for something that may be technically negligible.
My Monkey has been bumming me out lately, but that is an entirely different kit and kaboodle.
Peace out to all. Thanks for all of the sharing. I am learning a lot.

Has anyone tried this? DFX Audio Enhancer... http://www.fxsound.com/dfx/index.php?ve ... =0&refer=0
I've been using this for years, big difference too... Choose the one of your choice, or get them all.
I've always purchased the Master Pack, great deal... http://www.fxsound.com/dfx/pages/order/ ... =0#bonuscd

Re: How to make Mediamonkey sound better
My experience was enhanced with new speakers and amplifier (not speaking about the price, but it was worth it, at least I try to convince my wife
).
Then I switched to lossless (flac, ape, mp4)... (Never coming back to mp3 again. Never. Even for a shitty iPod.)
I am blown away every time I listen to good music.
I do not think that all these Enhancers and any Equalizer settings can change that much as really good speakers, amplifier and lossless format. Good input, good output - great experience. Some modifications in the middle won't matter if you have input/output formula right
.
It is like discovering a new world in music. I love this world. And the one without a music, sometimes

Re: How to make Mediamonkey sound better
You're right.
Buying a new receiver, a pair of good speakers and using FLAC surely will enhance your music experience.
We are talking about the differences between MM and other players on the same stereo devices.
I love MM but you can see that the hearing experience is really bad compared to other players (XBMC).
Enjoy your music!!
Ilan.

I know, I know. Just wanted to justify the purchase (brag about it), while speaking to other people
