1 DB, 3 Computers

Post by MPG »

Hi,
I have a desktop that has my music collectioon on a local drive. I do the majority of my library updates on this computer. By updates, I mean tagging updates, song additions, re-organization, etc.

I also have two laptops with MediaMonkey installed. Due to the constant updating I do, the laptop databases are always out of date, and it takes them a long time (40-60 minutes) to update. I work for an internet radio station (iRock109) and our music collection is quite large.

So I thought I would see if Mediamonkey could somehow utilize one database. I have found the knowledge base article:
http://www.mediamonkey.com/support/inde ... ticleid=49

but that seems to be for a network library and my library is local so I dont think that database will work on the laptops.

Any suggestions.

TIA
Greg

Are you sharing the files on the network or does each PC have a local Library?

The latter isn't convenient, but can be done: http://www.mediamonkey.com/wiki/index.p ... w_computer

The library is stored locally on a desktop computer. The library is shared out as a network drive. The laptops have no music library. They only connect to the shared drive. The problem is the Mediamonkey database on the laptops is never current and takes forever to update to the changes I've made on the desktop.

Thanks,
Greg

Then on the desktop scan files over their network path to the shared drive (UNC Path is preferred) and then share DB with laptops like the support article you linked suggests.
