A short wishlist

Improvement on Get Track Info.. WMP 9 does an excellent job of this, able to look up tags for a single/multiple tracks, or a whole CD, and lets you pick from the closest matches and lets you alter the search on the fly, and edit the results before the tags are saved.

Ignoring leading 'The' in Titles/Artists/etc when sorting.. i.e 'The Beatles' will show up under the B's and not the T's. (but 'They Might Be Giants' still shows up in T's)

Other than that, this program pretty darn close to perfect. :D

Cover Art?

Post by Guest »

How about downloading cover art and displaying it a detachable/dockable window of some sort? That shouldn't be too hard, as the program already connects to amazon.com.

Yep, that has also been covered in the forums. It is a very nice idea. The question would always be how to display this.

* Only in properties
* Dockable/Pop-up window
* Modified album view in explorer tree, where album art is shown with all the songs under that.
* Others??

Another point of thought would be location of album art.
* Store in file
* Download from Internet if you want to see it

I'd like a feature like this, but you also have to wonder how big the song files get with this and keepìng this in mind how usefull it is.

I'd suggest saving them as Album.jpg in the song's folder by default, but have it configurable of course. That way WinXP uses it for the thumbnails, which just looks cool in explorer thumbnail view 8) (Usually in organized collections, the songs are stored as Artist/Album/songs.ext, at least at all the ones I've seen)

I think a dockable window would work well, and also to have another view with all the album art with the artist/album title are listed and can be grouped by artist/year/etc.

Another possibility is to be able to associate file(s) with certain cover art via the properties/tagger. Storing the image in the song seems kinda unnecessary to me.

ID3 tag standard

Post by Lowlander »

I believe that album art is available in the ID3 tag standard (MP3's only) so your solution would be a solution especially for formats that don't support album art in tags.

That said, the path to the image isn't supported in the standards as far I know. So this solution would work only in MM, in other words other players wouldn't recognize this.

This raises the problem that all the work you do would only result in MM being able to use it. As such I would opt for a solution that other players would recognize it too.

And as for me I haven't done the effort of creating folders for artists (maybe one of the few who hasn't). As such it would form a little bit of chaos to have the images stored locally.

PS maybe the program/script/plugin could automatically create and move files to artist folders?
