i have used MMA for almost a year now on a Huawei equipped with an SD card
The sync performance is still a big issue - probably the biggest - in the daily use. The sync over wifi which is the most complete takes very long, 2-3 sec by song requires several hours to upload a complete song library. The other option is to take away the SD card and put it somewhere where the transfer is optimised from a network perspective. Difficult. Anyone that has optimised this aspect please share experience.
Another aspect is * why * MMA ALWAYS downloads each played song back to the server in the next sync. During the sync, MMA updates the metadata on the local MMA DB. This is normal because we can change properties of a song. These properties are changed in the DB, NOT IN THE SONG TAG.Once a song is played in MMA and even if no properties are updated (ONLY the playcount is increased), the sync ALWAYS downloads the song back to the server in addition to updating the metadata; This increases significantly the time of a sync and first and foremost - i really do not understand why this is done.
Sync performance and questions

Re: Sync performance and questions
wifi is inherently slow. Things that slow it down more are multiple devices on the wifi network (especially slow b & g devices can slow things down a lot), auto-conversion (requires MMW to first convert than sync the file) and distance from wifi hotspot (closer should get better speed).
I don't have MMW set to sync files back from MMA so I don't see this happening. I would presume that MMA would update the files on tag changes (not sure if it can yet) so that other Apps can see the changes as well.

Just curious - where is this set ?I specifically do not want this. I only expect MMA to send back to MMW metadata, that is it.Lowlander wrote:I don't have MMW set to sync files back from MMA so I don't see this happening. .
Re: Sync performance and questions
In the Auto-Sync (--> Library tab) in the Device Profile (Tools > Options > Portable Device Sync in MMW).

Conversion is not specific to wifi syncing, of course.Lowlander wrote:wifi is inherently slow. Things that slow it down more ... auto-conversion (requires MMW to first convert than sync the file)
