Player doesn't look right

I just reinstalled to a new PC, and the thin player at the bottom of the screen doesn't look right, no matter which skin I use. I've downloaded several, but the player doesn't change much. I've checked my old setup, and I was using Vitreous there and it looked fine. On the new machine, the player is a 1-2 cm blue ribbon at the bottom, with ugly, hard-to-see grey icons. (Can't figure out how to upload an image.) Not sure what to change.

Does the rest of MediaMonkey change when changing skin?

It does. The problem now seems to have resolved itself - several restarts. I've now realized that not all of the skin changes unless there's a restart. So, a bit mysterious, but now solved.
