Refresh option in Folders node not working [#16232]

Post by Barry4679 »

steps:
  • Select an album in Folders node
  • use option AutoOrganiseFiles, from the Context Menu, to duplicate some tracks from path SomeArtist\SomeAlbum to folder SomeArtist\SomeAlbum2
  • try to make the new folder visible with the View|Refresh menu option, or the F5 shortcut key
  • ? unable to make the new folder visible?
I expected that a refresh, when I had folder SomeArtist selected, would reload the folder and its children, making the new folder become visible ... doesn't work.
Doesn't work if I do a refresh of the parent folder of SomeArtist either.
What does the Refresh menu option do?

The folder does become visible if I close & reopen the SomeArtist node.

Also the Refresh option is not available in the Context Menu, in the main panel, when I am in the Folders node. ... Everthing else is there.

Hi,
refresh should refresh content not tree node which is refreshed on reopen. It was designed like that as there were lots of complains about tree flickering and loosing tree focus if expanded tree nodes are refreshed in realtime and for example track/playlist importing is done in background.

Or I got his correctly.

You haven't quite understood what I was trying to say.

When in Location node, the folder, and what it contains, is the content. I wasn't meaning the Media Tree, I was referring to what I see in the main (centre) panel. ... You have a View|Refresh menu option .... surely the assumption is that it would refresh the contents of the main panel. At the moment if flickers and repaints the screen ... but it does not reflect any changes to what is on disk.

Hi,
Can you make Screen grab video on what you are referring to?

Yes I can, but I don't see how that helps ... it is dead easy already.

Here are my steps from original post ... I edited them for plus more clarity
Barry4679 wrote: Thu Dec 26, 2019 5:10 am steps:
  • Go to Folders node, using the Media Tree
  • Navigate to the an album using the main (centre) panel
  • use option AutoOrganiseFiles, from the Context Menu, to duplicate some tracks from path SomeArtist\SomeAlbum to folder SomeArtist\SomeAlbum2 ... nb. testing note: I only do this to trigger a situation where there is something that needs refreshing ... alternatively I could have made some change using the Windows Filer Explorer
  • try to make the new folder visible with the View|Refresh menu option, or the F5 shortcut key
  • ? unable to make the new folder visible?
The issue that I am reporting is that the Refresh option, and the F5 key, are not refreshing the centre panel in this case. ... the option is enabled, but it does nothing.

Ask again if you still need a video grab

This same thing seems to happen if you just copy a file .. not a whole folder

  • open somewhere in the Location node's main panel
  • make a disk change, either as I did in the steps supplied, or using Windows File Explorer
  • use either of the Refresh options that you have provided (menu option. and|or the shortcut key)
  • see whether the displayed contents are updated to show the new|changed content

OK, it seems that the issue appears when there isn't a sub-folder already.

i.e. if I am in folder C:\Temp\ and the folder already has some subfolders then pressing F5 (after creation of a new sub-folder via Windows Explorer) works.
But if there are no subfolders then F5 does nothing and the folder still looks like empty.
This is fixed as https://www.ventismedia.com/mantis/view.php?id=16232

But I cannot replicate the issue for files, when I copy a new file to the folder (via Windows Explorer) then pressing F5 always causes the new file to appear in the view.
