Customizing MediaMonkey

MediaMonkey is highly customizable and can be extended with a variety of addons.

Customizing the Skin

You can change MediaMonkey's skin via Tools > Options > Skin.

Customizing the Toolbar

The MediaMonkey toolbar is customizable. Toolbars can be enabled/disabled by right-clicking on the Toolbar area. Toolbars are also completely customizable by right-clicking on the Toolbar area and clicking 'Configure' e.g. you can create a new Toolbar solely for the purpose of managing Podcasts.

Customizing the Layout

• The various Windows in the MediaMonkey user interface (e.g. the Player, the Now Playing Window, the Album Art Window, etc.) can be dragged and dropped via the Title bar to create a layout that you like. If the Title bar is missing, right-click on the component and enable the Title bar.
• Columns in the Tracklist can be customized by right- clicking on the header.
• Columns in the Track Browser can be customized by right-clicking on the header.
• The layout of Tracks and Album Art can be configured via Tools > Options > Library > Appearance.

Customizing Filters and Views

MediaMonkey allows Filters to be created that define subsets of the Library. Associated with each filter is a customized set of nodes and columns, customized Track Browser, along with custom playback and synchronization settings. For instance, there may be Filters for:

• Kid's Music (based on Genre=Children;Kids), where only the Artist and Album nodes are shown to make it easy for Children to browse.
• Classical (based on Genre=Classical), where Composer and Conductor nodes are added, and the first Track Browser column is 'Composer' instead of 'Artist', and Crossfading is disabled.
• Spoken word (based on Genre=Audiobook or Status=is Podcast), where the Rating node is removed, Crossfading is disabled, and bookmarking is enabled.

Filters can be defined or edited via File > Manage Filters

Filter 'None' represents the default node and column settings when no Filter is active.

For any other filter, you'll need to define:

1. The criteria associated with the filter (just as you would define search criteria)
2. The View for the filter--which nodes and columns should be shown and in what order.
3. Nodes or Columns can be enabled/disabled or greyed out, the latter meaning that the default settings should apply.
4. Player settings regarding how tracks that match the filter should behave with respect to Bookmarking, Shuffle, and Crossfading.
   • Note: Player settings apply to a Track based on the first Filter that it matches (i.e. the order in which filters are listed is important).

Note: You can also change which columns are displayed for the current view by right-clicking on the column headers. Drag and dropping the columns will change their order.
