I am syncing my MMW with MM8 right now :) Almost done!! Just 200 songs left. I hope the playlists sync too they still have not appeared...

I don't have android sadly. I have an apple phone *cough* terrible *cough*. I am thinking about switching to windows phone soon. I hear that its easy to convert windows 8 apps into windows phone apps (mostly a matter of shrinking the UI) so hopefully MM will make a windows phone app next...!!

Just tried doubletwist, and it works fine. Other than the fact I decided to loath itunes almost a decade ago now, doubletwist is everything I want. Seems to have a nice android app/player, syncs play count and track stats seemlessly (and yes I know Aff is still supporting his syncback script, but to be honest its never been a particularly satisfactory solution), and also imports itunes playlists - although the downside there is it doesnt seem to do smartlists.

The only reason I can see for not just abandoning MM is that I've got a couple of years of track stats invested in the MM database. If I can find a way to import them into itunes without it wrecking all my tags, I'll be goneburger and recommending everyone else who owns an Android phone does similar if DT works for them.

timelezz wrote:Currently iTunes, WMP, Winamp, Songbird, DoubleTwist, et cetera have WiFi sync solutions. MM has NOT! And I completely agree that MM must come with a solution. For me it's becoming a pivotal in a decision whether I will keep using MM. And I am even a lifetime GOLD user!

I've taken time this Sunday to assess some of the alternative workarounds to sync over WiFi with MM. These are the options I come up with:

A: Wait for an Android app that syncs with MM <-- Probably takes ages
B: Copy files to a seperate folder + Android WiFi Sync Files <-- This is possible, but not a favorable solution
C: Auto-export M3u's (MM-script) + Android WiFi Sync M3U's <-- Surprisingly, there is no android app that syncs M3U's

I notice at this point that there are TONS of Android apps that support iTunes, and syncs iTunes playlists. Apparently iTunes is more favorable by developers, or has playlists that are easier to address to. Whatever the reason is, iTunes is so much in favor.

At this moment I installed iTunes, and will give it a try. Probably I will not completely abandon MM. Rather I will use MM for tagging, and iTunes for Synchronizing and playing songs. I would be glad that Last.FM plugin will work again too with iTunes. I will keep you updated.

It's syncing back to database thus files on PC are unaffected in the case of connection loss (should be).

How safe is this? Is it safe enough to do two way sync?

What if MM loose connection in the middle of updating a song from the device? Would MM detect this and revert to the last known good version?

Ratings sync works just fine..

Play count is a whole other story. *sighs*

If you set MM to sync songs back to the PC that are newer (i.e. had a rating set while on the device), it will copy the song with the rating back to your library. Not an ideal solution, but it will work. If you're using PlayerPro music player, it has a native MM rating setting.

Hello,

Does the Samba Fileshare sync your ratings?

If so, you are my new HERO

I've been sucessfully using wifi sync for about a week now. I've been using MM4 with my HP Touchpad running Android. When the dev team released an Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) alpha, I jumped on it. Unfortunatlely, the storage access under this version changed from USB/Drive letter to MTP. I don't know if it will remain that way or not, but for now it is. It's unfortunate because MM4 apparently needs to scan the entire MTP file structure to sync the device. Since this is a full OS, it has a lot of files on it, and takes it over 30 minutes to scan.

This forced my hand to try another sync solution. What I landed on was an app called Samba Filesharing:
https://market.android.com/details?id=c ... nNhbWJhIl0.

This (as you would expect Samba to do), when enabled will broadcast as a windows server share, so it can be mapped to drive letter by any PC on the network. From there, I simply mapped it to my PC, but mounted from the media directory so the scanning is a lot quicker (5 seconds, or less). I configured the drive in MM4 (thanks, lowlander), and now I'm able to sync via wifi.

Great for so many reasons... the app has a whitelist capability, so it will only enable for specific networks. This allows it to always be on for my network, but never when I'm away. I can sync while it sits in the charging dock, or even while I'm watching a video while on my treadmill :).

Really happy with this as a solution. Recommending you try it if you have an Android device.

If you have a Sony Ericsson Xperia phone running Android 2.3.2 or newer, you can use MTP over Wifi to achieve this. (no root needed)

There is a thread about how to set it up here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthr ... ?t=1016341

Works fine on my Xperia Arc S

First you need an sbm app for your phone like Samba. Using Samba you can share and browse your phone on your network. Basically you'll be able to browse it over wifi by going to \\android\sdcard.

Then map a network drive to the shared network resource. For me, I made a "W:" drive for my wifi syncing, and mapped it to \\android\sdcard.

Then in MM options, setup Portable/Audio Devices. Configure a USB Mass storage device. On the "options" tab, make sure "Device configuration" points to your mapped drive letter. For playlists to work properly, go to the "Playlists" settings on the "options" tab and check the "Force relative paths" box. That got playlists working for me in players that support m3u files like Google Music and Winamp. Also, in "options" "destination" settings, you can use the <Path> string to get your phone's file structure to match your computer's file structure. I prefer this to reorganizing based on artist, album, etc... Tweak the other settings to match your particular organization preferences and you're good to go.
This is a good solution, and well described. Thanks for posting it.
I set up something very similar a few month back and abandoned it because performance was so lousy over wifi. At the end of the day, I found it less troublesome (and much faster) just to connect the cable. Based on personal experience only.

Use Google Music

1. Sync MM playlist (I have auto playlist for 5 star rated music) to a folder on your pc

2. configure google music to sync with this folder.

done

no usb syncing any more.

If you don't like streaming, you can chose in GM to make the musich available offline.

done

cheers
