1256 NP not displayed after RS & could corrupt tags [#5783]

This is really serious and cannot believe that nobody noticed so far. Here are steps to reproduce:
- load several tracks into the Now Playing panel, make sure that at least Length, Title and Artist columns are visible;
- note that each track have displayed Length, Title and Artist, also if you choose Properties for any track from NP, you would get the dialog box with all available metadata for that track;
- restart the program;
- note that now only the first track in the Now Playing panel have displayed Length, Title and Artist, other tracks have the Title column in the form of "Artist - Title", the Length and Artist columns are empty; if you choose Properties you would get dialog without any metadata, Title field displays Artist - Title info, only Cover Arts are displayed correctly. If you click on OK... well, you better don't do that or you will lose all tags of that track if you have the "Update tags when editing properties" option checked on (metadata in the Library are not affected).

strange indeed but more so that it did not happen to me ? i just checked and all 450 songs in my now playing playlist when restarted the stable mm 3.1 released version after i played it for several hours today, then shut it off for the afternoon.

i had not restarted it till now just to check your error. and as i said all my songs had all the info in the now playing and the listview and the track browser.

must be something with vista? cause i have xp pro Sp 3,

I've tried that and can't reproduce ... tracks in NP will appear like you said for a half second and right after they're read from database/tag, they will appear correctly (because NP tracks are loaded from M3U file and then updated from database/tag).

Tested 1213, 1219, 1249-1256 under XP SP2 with and without any script. Versions till 1250 work fine, from 1251 don't.

give me the reason you don't use xp sp3, as xp sp2 will be called the cause of it by me if you don't explain why you didn't upgrade to sp3 on your xp computer as in you had some hardware issues that prevented its use.

I get the same thing as this one for a few seconds, but as Petr stated once Mm fully loads, my tags are put back to the way they should be with all metadata showing. Z, your's is not completely reloading after MM finishes its startup?

Just tested under Vista - same problem. Yes I could wait as long as you want - it stays as I explained with posted screenshot. I could open the Properties dialog box for such tracks as I explained, this dialog box could ruin my track tags. All of this lasts very long, it is not just few seconds.

I would suggest installing the debug version and sending in some debug logs.

I am getting the reported behavior if I load tracks into NP and restart program without playing any track. If I start playing at least one track after loading into NP, when I restart program everything is fine.

I have tried this on vista sp2 and xp sp2 and cant reproduce what you have described

WHOA! I can confirm this on Vista Premium, MM build 1256!

I had tracks playing, so I stopped them. Cleared the now playing list and closed the program. Did this so that no tracks were loaded into the player. Started the program back up, clicked the Artist & Album Artist node to load my entire library (which I normally do), but instead of "Play Now" like usual, I instead highlighted all the tracks and dragged them to the Now Playing pane. Closed out MediaMonkey without playing any of the newly added tracks. Upon restarting, only the first track's meta-data is loaded into the Now Playing list, as described by ZvezdanD.

Playing the track will result in the Meta-data being loaded in, but the rest of the tracks will remain in this "loaded from M3U" state. Baaaad.

EDIT: I have entered into Mantis as Bug #5783 given I was able to reproduce.

You have to clear out the NP list first, and close MM. This will result in an empty player when you load MM back up. (Instead of the title, artist, etc listed on the Player, it will show "MediaMonkey Player") Once you have MediaMonkey in this state, drag some files to the now playing list, but do not play anything. Now, close MediaMonkey once more, and load it back up. Normally, it should give you a progress bar for "Reading Now Playing Tracks..." or whatever the terminalogy used is, as it goes through and updates the bar NP entries with information from the database. However, in this case, only the first track is updated, leaving the other files in the bare bones "added from MediaMonkey.M3U" state, or whatever you might want to call it.

As described by Z, once you have entries like this, opening their properties panel from the Now Playing window results in a near blank panel (only "<Artist> - <Title>" shown in the Title field). Hitting okay on this window will result in overwriting your tags, which is where the "corrupt tags" comes in.

EDIT: I see Nyn's now caught on to this, but I'll leave this description of the steps up just incase it's not clear to others, hopefully this will clear it up for them.
