Duplicate Title Search

Is there a way to search for duplicate titles within 1 folder or a specific group of folders? When I use the duplicate title feature, it searches all titles within my library. I added the advance duplicate script, but can not limit the search to a specific folder or group of folders - it does my entire library as well.

Currently it's not possible but I might add such function to the script sometime in the future.
May I ask why you want to exclude tracks in a duplicate search?

I keep all my original (high bitrate) copies of mp3s on my main computer. I have an external harddrive, which I sync to at a lower bitrate. When connecting to my ipod classic 160 gb, i copy the lower bitrate songs from the external hard drive. I have found doing a straight copy (without converting on the fly) is not only faster but causes fewer sync problems. I have over 34K songs that I am syncing.

The problem I run into is in order to sync to the ipod, the songs must be in my library. Therefore, I now have two copies of the same song in my library (high bit rate and low bit rate version). Therefore, I get a bunch of false positives. In order to not have false positives, here are my options:

1. Use another software to sync to the ipod. Unfortunately, there is no other software that works as well as MM. When using iTunes, it won't even read the 34K songs I have on the external hard drive. It cuts off at around 17K. Not sure if this is because my mp3s are structured in multiple folders - artist/album/track# - song. It also alters the sound volume when transferring mp3s, as well.

2. After syncing my ipod, deleting the external hard drive from my view. This is not a great option either, as I would have to rescan the hard drive before I sync each time.

3. If MM were able to sync to an ipod based on a non-library file location only, this would be a solution. Unfortunately, in order to auto-sync, you must designate specific folders from your library.

4. There is a script that allows the user to use multiple libraries and switch before opening MM. However, when I tried to use this script to isolate two different libraries (one with high bitrate songs, one with low bitrate songs), I discovered that if I delete one folder from one view and remove it from monitor folders also - it changes both library views! Maybe I'm using this wrong, but if I can't edit two different libraries with two sets of monitored folders, then there is no benefit.

Ok I see. I got inspired so I made a quick and dirty workaround for you!
I added a limit: Must be in playlist to the script
So just add all songs you want to check in a static playlist and limit the script in the inputbox: Playlist= playlistname
Make sure that the playlistname doesn't have any '*%[] in its name.

Need instructions on what to do. When I get to the 'Duplicate Search' box, I no longer can select artist or album in the bottom half of the window. It is in these two boxes where I have tried multiple variations of inputting my static playlist. I created a playlist file, dragged and dropped the files I wanted to include and named it 'staticplaylist. I did your formula in the first box, with the equal sign, without the equal sign, using different playlist names, etc.

Please help, maybe I'm in the wrong screen. Take care.

You just install the script over the one you already have and then restart MediaMonkey.
You should get a window like this.
(I filled it in with your playlist name.)

No, I'm not getting that dialogue box - still see old version. I copied over the old file. Now I get the following scripting error:

Error #-2147467259 - Microsoft JET Database Engine
Unrecognized database format 'C\Local Settings\Application Data\MediaMonkey\MM.DB'.

The changes are made for MM2 not MM3. (You never told me you was using MM3.)

In MM3 three you can use "Global filter" to limit the built in "Duplicate titles" node (I think).

Does that work?

Hello again. If by global filter, you mean the Tools -> Options -> Filters & Views, then it doesn't limit the duplicate search feature. It limits your main library view, but filters only work with the entire library.

Right now as a work around, I delete the folder (34K files) that contains music that I don't want to search for duplicates and reload when I'm done with my duplicate search. It's cumbersome, but MM3 is much faster in loading new songs than MM2.

Ok, I thought the global filters applied to all nodes no matter what.

I will add the "Must be in playlist thing" to the MM3 version of the script. But it will take a while. I don't have access to my "script computer" for a while now...

I found this thread whilst searching for this feature - identifying duplicates within a playlist. May I add my request for this feature to be added (for MM3)?

Would it also be possible to have an option to remove all the duplicate tracks, leaving just the track with the highest bitrate?

i use the options filter to display a year only then i use duplicate titles on that year only!
duplicate titles would show up thousands on my library, so im working through year by year .

something similar to your quest ?

Exaxtly the same as my quest. Thousands of duplicates take an awfully long tome to work through, dont'they!

I have found a script which analyses within a playlist and automatically deletes lower bitrate duplicates, which is great. However, ideally I would still like to be able to do the opposite - i.e. remove the highest bitrate file, leaving only the lowest bitrate duplicates. That way I could mark all the low bitrate duplicates with a bomb and filter them from my library.

I haven't been able to locate a script to do this and unfortunately I have no scripting skills myself. Does anyone know of a script which would do what I want?

Great idea about limiting to a particular year, by the way - but my collection is unfortunately lacking the year on a huge number of tracks so this option isn't open to me.
