rovingcowboy wrote:just got word that all skins for mm 3 SHOULD be in an install package. it was said should be, meaning that it might be alright not to be in one.

so i took it that it was a good idea to make them for the skins.

now i'll need to read this and figure out how to make one.
so i go to the wiki and found there are two ways of doing it.
via the ini,
or the vbs.

so which is the best way and why do i need to use the code in the above that is a reply to big berny?

and why can't i just use my zip programs abilty to make zip exe programs that will remember the path to load the file in?

:o :-? :( :-?
The advantage of using the mmip files is that MM then knows of changes on the fly. Which means it all becomes available without having to restart MM.
You need the ini anyway since there is defined what is copied where. The vbs is only needed if you need to set something up, like writing ini entries.

I'm sorry that i cannot help more but i don't know anything about skinning for MM.

all is needed for skinning and an install package.

is to have the package know where to place the msz file.

thats it one file used for skinning.

it needs to be in the folder called. like this example.
  • c:\program files\media monkey\skins\Blue Glass.msz
no other then that. and i can get my zip program to make that exe and remember that path.
so what is it that i need to do for the install package?

i just tried to look at the page on the wiki
all them changes you did made it even harder for me as a non programer to figure out what to do.
there's no step by step for dummy's

you know like.

  • 1. do this.
    2. do that.
    3. now do this.
    4. now finish with this.
    5. now add in this.
    6. finish with this.
simple step by step. 8)

Well, I'm not against the installpackages at all. I know that it is useful to have a standardized setup for all extensions and also the 'Check updates'-feature is useful.
BUT: If normal Vista-users (UAC is enabled by default) can't use the installer it's kind of useless...

Let's hope the devs can help...

okay i posted i had understood it and i did.
just now there are questions i have that i was wondering about.?

1. you wrote someicon.ico in your example. and nohitter151 has app.ico in his install ini.

so can you have the icon named any old name, Or does the monkey need to have it named app.ico in order for him to find it.

2. and you have it listed to remove the icon but there is no place in the install that i see to load the icon?

so does the icon load automaticly in to the ext... menu and or will it be unloaded in to the skins folder?

if it is unloaded in to the skins folder then it has to be a different name or it will be overwrote by the next skin that is installed.?

3. and not really a question for the distro. version of the install packages for the skins, but is there a way we can get monkey to find our mmip files we make on our system and let us check them out that way.

@rc:
1. The icon which is shown in MM under 'Extensions' has always be named 'App.ico'. I also just put a copy of an icon in th package and renamed it to App.ico.

2. AFAIK the App.ico gets automatically installed and uninstalled

3. No, don't think so.

Just FYI: The files need to be named Install.ini and Uninstall.ini (beginning with capital letters); install.ini will throw an error.

Hi everyone!
Just registered in the forum and want to ask Jiri or any other in the team.

Very happily I followed the suggestions on the best scripts to enhance the already awesome MM3 (Gold), and amazed by the Extensions functionality... but while doing so, I discovered that some scripts were misbehaving.. and wanted to enable/disable them temporarily from the Extensions screen but seems the option is missing...

It is any plan to allow from inside options/extensions to enable/disable plugins and extensions?

In the mean time i keep on changing 'temporarily' file extensions of my plugins/scripts to .vbk and .dlk

Thank you for reading and for all your excellent work
(the best program I ever used to collect my 50k songs library)

I sign this one... It doesn't have to be something fancy like Firefox with reviewing and central repository and all that... Just a way for users to do 'Find Updates' and that it works no matter where are files actually uploaded... I know, it's not nice to make pressure on devs while MM is still mostly free and already offers SO MUCH, but this one is a great WISH :D

MM developers, I think your installation process has a bug if there is some Install.vbs file in same folder as .mmip file. For example, if I have Install.vbs from RegExp Find & Replace script in same folder as MagicNodes.mmip, when I click on this .mmip file it is executed RegExp's Install.vbs, instead of Install.vbs from the MagicNodes.mmip.
