Anybody got plans for a Winamp 5.0 or 5.5 skin ?? (For MM 3)

Post by Jome »

I like the Blue Glass skin and the WMP11 skin, but as a long time Winamp user, I'd rather see a proper Winamp 5.0 or Winamp 5.5 Bento skin lookalike to ease the transistion to MediaMonkey and to avoid being "homesick".. lol, think a lot of people feel the same way.

Itunes/Ipod/WMP11 lookalike skins is ok, but Winamp 5 and 5.5 looks slicker/fresher, imo.

Examples of what I'd like to see (CLICK TO ENLARGE):

Winamp 5.0 skin:

Not me! I've been a die-hard Winamp user since 2.x and I say good riddance to bad rubbish! Since I got a new Vista machine and upgraded to 5.x, I've had nothing but trouble Winamp. I used to think the Bento skin was pretty slick, but MM is just so much nicer no matter how you skin it.

Still, I'm sure there are others who'd like their monkeys dressed like llamas so just ignore me. Home is where your monkey hangs.

nothing like a cold plunge in to a pool of water to change your mind on wheather or not it is cold or hot.

software should be the same way you can not fully use the new program unless you jump head first in to it and forget the old program for a few months then you are able to make comparisons to both.

steegy did a winamp skin for mm 2 version. ask him if he wants to convert it for mm 3. won't take more then a few hours to do so. but it might have errors in as most the converted mm 2 skins have something they don't use in mm 3.

I would be keen to use Mediamonkey with the Bento skin, everything is really small which is good, means you can fit more songs on your screen at once rather than obtrusive big buttons etc.

If not the Bento skin then something similiar with lots of room for content.

Bento skin

I'd love a bento skin for mediamonkey. I've been an itunes user for a long time and boy am i glad i switched to mediamonkey! But i downloaded winamp just to try it out and cuz i wanted to use StreamRipper and i was amazed by the bento skin and how small the buttons and everything are. Plus all the colour themes. If only that would exist for MM...
But i'm still sticking with MM cuz of functionality and the scripts.

and there is already a winamp skin in the converted section of the skins page. nohitter151 converted steegys mm 2 skin that he made to look like winamp 5.

Ahh, good to see this thread on top again..

Obviously there's a demand for Winamp skins, you can't under-estimate the power of all the Winamp users converting to MM, or those who might be wondering to convert to MM, it makes the transition easier, and you get the benefit of MM's superior features with Winamp's sleek fancy look. :D
The best of both worlds, que no.. ?

no is correct.

as you got me to answer i really don't want winamp looking skin. i want all mediamonkey only looking skins. it is that which i believe will over shadow winamp and other players in the long run.

a whole new media monkey only look.

one that is well away from any other media player.

but i also know some people just don't want to change,
but i am not going to make the converted skin. maybe you can get steegy to convert it to mm 3. its not hard now its even easier then before since i found out how to keep background images the same as they were in mm 2.

but if i remember there is not any images in steegys listview background. just color or stripes.?

thats even easier, i could get it working in less then 12 hours but i'm not going to.

just what i put on the wiki and what i said in the forum should help you convert it yourself in one day.

it really has gotten simpler to do.

i'll say this.

according to skill levels this is how long it should take the other skinners to convert mm 2 skins.

morton, - 12 hours or less if he sits there and does it.
peke, - 12 hours or less if he sits there and does it.
nohitter151 - 12 hours or less if he sits there and does it.
steegy, - 10 hours or less if he sits there as he has all the images already it will take him less time to set up the change over folders.
macmaster- 12 hours or less
dreadM - 12 hours or less
magicalpig - 12 hours or less.
blake -12 hours or less
tomme88 -12 hours or less.
irishjet - 12 hours or less.
anyone else that has made a mm 2.5 skin - 12 hours or less

any one that never made a mm skin 15 hours or less.

anyone that never made a skin at all for any player. - 20 hours or less if they have no graphic art talent.

anyone that never made a skin before for any thing in software, and they have some graphic art talent - 15 hours or less.

so see it really is not hard at all, i lumped me in the 12 hours but i really might beable to get it done in 5.

Ok, the cowboy doesn't want Winamp skins, I'm glad we got that straight, there was some confusion about the subject. (lol just playing.)
I'm sure a Winamp skin would get a couple of thousand downloads though, at least.

If you want MM to set a whole new standard/raise the bar in the design/interface department, I think you'll need some top class professional designers, dedicated to the matter full time, or at least have the top 5 "self taught" skin-makers/designers/photoshoppers/whatever collaborate on setting a new standard.. but what do I know..

petrcbr was hired to make the skinning engine work better for monkey. and to add in ideas. morten can program and so can peke and a few other skinners they give ideas to petrcbr all the time, he trys to get them in as new features, the transparent background came in by petrcbr making it work after morten gave him the idea.

so that is co-operation there. i can't program.? just do artwork. and try to use the features they come up with.

there is the users skinning project already set up to get different parts of the skin made by other users. i did the black theme part of the present skin but nobody is making anything else, nohitter151 made a mini player for it and peke made a av effect design for it if some one is making the other players they did not say? i'm hoping it gets made here shortly by some member which are in school now, after school lets out they might get to work on it.

there are seveal pro... skinners / make that were some pro skinners in the group. one left cause the way the skins are made is too much of a programmers skin for him, and metalaxekeith is only wanting to do it for a hobby he said. and he only comes in now and then to read the forum. i seen him the other night in here.

so trying to get mass co op.. from other members is rather hard to do. but is being tried.
