features from Mexp, a plugin for winamp

Post by DaledeSilva »

Hello, every now and then on the forums I mention some features of a no longer developed program called mexp - which was a database plugin for winamp.

Those features are mainly revolved around the search functions.. but the tag editor, and other functions are all quite novel and can be learned from.

I've created a little video tour of it to describe and point out some of these features to the MM team and I've asked their permission to post it here also.

The program is no longer developed or supported.
here is the link to the video presentation:

out of interest.. I'm pretty sure that mexp was made by one person - that's why it's no longer developed - he got a job.

as another note, the video audio get's 'slightly' out of sync with the video.. so when I mention the search is pretty much instantaneous, it is, any delay you see if the video presentation.

Dale.

Great video and it was nice to hear you speak! :D

The search in MEXP was really impressive and as you say a killer feature. I want something similar in MM. If you have a large library then the search is painstakingly slow.
I even think that SQLite has some functionality in this area. I.e a Full Text Search module which I guess should be used to implement something like this in MM.
Advanced Duplicate Find & Fix Find More From Same - Custom Search. | Transfer PlayStat & Copy-Paste Tags/AlbumArt between any tracks.
Tagging Inconsistencies Do you think you have your tags in order? Think again...
Play History & Stats Node Like having your Last-FM account stored locally, but more advanced.
Case & Leading Zero Fixer Works on filenames too!

Hi guys,
I've created another video of mexp to showcase how I think muliple artist editing should work:

http://www.oiltinman.com/downloads/misc ... expgenres/

When you edit the tag, multiple genres and artists work really well with this add delete ability..
When displayed in the tracklist, I believe it should use the Pipe symbol as Technojunky has suggested.
This would mean that inputting information could be done via 'editing in place" and using the pipe symbol.. or via scripting functions which sending it as a string including the pipe symbol... which string is then parsed by MM in both cases so that it is seperated in the tags.
