in the rio case. it should show up as a device in the tree under the my computer area if it is connected and is a device known by your computer.

if it is not able to be used by your computer then media monkey wont see it.

so check with the product hook it up and then go to the my computer area and see if it shows your rio as a device some place.?

if not then you need drivers for it to work with your computer find out where you get them for your rio.

as all usb plug in devices should show up as a drive in the my computer area of your computer. when you can see it in there so can media monkey.

however you might also need to get the drivers that rio uses to compress the songs in to its format that it uses. it might say mp3 supported but i bet it is using some other format that it converts the mp3's too. in order to fit on the rio.

if that is the case then you cant put anything on it until you get the drivers for it and get them installed on your computer.

if it shows up in my computer area in media monkey and just wont install the songs on to the rio then i think it is the converting drivers you need.

Well, my Rio S35S player shows up in explorer, but without any drive letter (Non Mass Storage).

I downloaded the drivers, but I am only able to transfer musics by Rio Music Manager, Windows Media Player or even dragging and dropping a mp3 file into My Computer\Rio S35 in Explorer.

Can MediaMonkey use the same method Windows Media Player or Explorer uses to transfer the files?

I tried drag'n drop to transfer directly from MediaMonkey to my Rio player, but MM just lets me drag'n drop to another drive. Then, the workaround is: drag'n drop from MediaMonkey to a temp directory, then copy it to your Rio Player.

For informational purposes, the driver I downloaded from Rio is the same for all the following devices:
Rio 600
Rio 800
Rio 900
Rio Nike PSA[play
Rio S10
Rio S11
Rio S30S
Rio S35S
Rio S50
Rio Fuse
Rio Chiba
Rio Cali
Rio Fuse
Rio Chiba
Rio Cali
Rio Riot
Rio Karma
Rio Nitrus
Rio Eigen

So, the solution should be the same for all these devices.

MM 2.3 supports drag & drop to other applications. It might help you in your case if those applications also support incoming drag & drop.

I'm on MM 2.3.1.831 and I can drag musics only to drive letters in explorer.

I can drag and drop from other apps (like Avafind) to my Rio S35S node in Explorer, but cannot do the same in MM.

I can drag & drop from MM to other applications without a problem. You might want to report this problem in the beta forum.

We really need more player support for MM!

Post by MMJunky »

I know most players keep their systems closed, and that's why Media Monkey can't sync with those players. But without support for these new players MM will be severly limited.

I wonder if everyone in the MM community emailed the respective player companies, at least some of them would open up their systems?

How about Windows Media Player 10, seems like most of the popular non-iPod players use that (or do they?). Is there some way to windows script an interface to WMP 10's file input / output stuff? Should everyone email MS about opening that up, I mean they should want iTunes to not be the best setup on windows right? Let the Monkey have his day!

It would really suck for me to have to give up MM whenever I get a portable player. I would hate to have to go to Apple for itunes/ipod and do a part in helping Apple zealots have their heads swell up a few more sizes.

I know this is less than ideal but there are a number of third party applications you can use to synch your media monkey playlists with the ipod (e.g. ephpod, anapod). It's not seamless, it's not ideal, but it works well enough that you need not give up MM.

The developpers are very aware of the need for more portable device support. I'm sure they're working on it.

It all has to do with clout. MS has a lot of it and as such third parties are more willing to open up to MS. Especially as WMP is installed on nearly every Windows machine, which in turn is nearly every end-user machine. That is a lot of clout.

MM doesn't yet have that type of clout. So we the users can certainly aid in this by contacting forums and companies of plugins or players. Fortunately MM can use the WinAmp vehicle and thus has a little bit more clout. But as you can see on WinAmp.com there are few plugins for portable players available.

Thanks for the replies. I don't plan on buying a portable player very soon, maybe things will have worked out by then.

In the meantime I'm loving the Flac support and Amazon retagging!

Can the list be updated?

Post by mikeryan »

I'd love to see an up-to-date list of what works and what doesn't with MM's sync capabilities... I just got burned buying a Zen Xtra - I'm returning it, MM won't work for synchronization and Creative's software is useless - I was looking at the Rio Karma, but it appears it won't work either.

I'll contribute to the list - the RCA RD2820 and RD2840 worked fine with MM's synchronization features....
