Re: Unofficial but very helpful iPod/iTunes/MediaMonkey Hints
I have an 80GB 5.5 Gen Video iPod coming in the mail today, i finally caved and bought one.
Though I've seen the question asked a couple of time, I don't believe I've seen it answered.
Do I have to install iTunes to synch MUSIC onto my iPod with MM3 3.0.3.1183?
Later I may decide I need something other than music, but that's what I want now.
Do I have to have iTunes to do that?

The first 6 items of the post are about iTunes.
Do I just start at #7 if I just want to use MM.

iTunes, that's what your question is about, isn't it? Go to page 1 and read it. It'll answer (most)) of your questions. At least it did for me.hicksenterprises wrote:The first 6 items of the post are about iTunes.

I only use MM to sync my iPod Classic. Only to upgrade my software or for photo's (that I don't use) I might need iTunes.

Re: Unofficial but very helpful iPod/iTunes/MediaMonkey Hints
I did not load iTunes and I am having worlds of trouble with the 5G 80 GB Video iPod I just got.
Right now it is mounting and unmounting in MM but it won't sync.
It appears am\nd disappears in My Computer as USB Mass Storage Device, the same as it shows on MM.
I've gotten songs on it but when I try to synch, all the songs disappear, the memory id\s still used, I just can't play any music.
I guess I'll try loading iTunes tomorrow and see if it will work.
I was hoping I could use my beloved MM by itself,
I followed all the steps from the front of this post beginning with #6 or #7, right after the iTunes stuff. But it still doesn't work. I guess this means I do have to use iTunes as well as MM to synch just music on the iPod.
At least I hope it works,

MM is compatible with that iPod, so syncing shouldn't be difficult. See my more recently created guide at http://www.mediamonkey.com/wiki/index.p ... _ipod_sync , perhaps it will help you sort out whatever issues you're experiencing.hicksenterprises wrote:I did not load iTunes and I am having worlds of trouble with the 5G 80 GB Video iPod I just got.

Re: Unofficial but very helpful iPod/iTunes/MediaMonkey Hints
Now neither iTunes nor Windows recognizes the iPod!
The Apple site says to restore the ipod, but if iTunes won't see it, it can't be restored.
Any ideas?

Check the connections. [Seems silly, but don't dismiss the most stupid possibility]. Eventually try another cable [unlikely, unless you mangled it].hicksenterprises wrote:Now neither iTunes nor Windows recognizes the iPod!
Is you iPod connected to a hub? Connect it directly to your computer.
Did you do a reboot?
Completely remove iTunes and reinstall. Maybe do the same with MM. Reboot.
iTunes might say to reinstall the iPod. It won't do harm, but I you might ignore it.
After the iPod gets recognized again by iTunes follow the instructions at the beginning of this thread very carefully.
At the beginning I also had great problems getting my iPod to work with MM. Now it works like a charm.
Good luck.

Re: Unofficial but very helpful iPod/iTunes/MediaMonkey Hints
Thanks very much for this lesson on synching an Ipod with MM. I consider myself relatively IT savvy and I have been stimied for weeks now, and following these instructions got everything working just as I had hoped. I have probably reset factory settings and reloaded everything about 5 times, and this procedure really worked. Thanks again. You should be webmaster of something as far as I'm concerned.
Thanks again!
Thanks again!
Re: Unofficial but very helpful iPod/iTunes/MediaMonkey Hints
Hi,
I've read through this entire thread and I still have a question regarding my 80gig ipod video classic.
I've never used itunes with my ipod, only media monkey and have never had any problems. I'm now attempting to use my ipod with a mac that has itunes. When I connect my ipod it asks me to name it, and then to go through a set up procedure (i would of course chose not to auto-sync the music library etc).
Based on the first few sections of the first post in this thread, it would seem that if I choose to proceed with the 'set up ipod' option that appears when itunes is loaded my ipod would be reformatted?
I haven't gone far into the set up procedure, will it let me know if my ipod is about to be reformatted?
thanks for any help

Re: Unofficial but very helpful iPod/iTunes/MediaMonkey Hints
You know, I LOVE MediaMonkey almost as much as I disklike ITunes ..... but I'd never be able to work my way through those directions. Not that they aren't VERY GOOD directions, I'd just meltdown halfway through....
I did it the blundering way and I managed to get MediaMonkey to put the music on the Ipod but the playlists won't play the songs, they just keep scrolling on a list endlessly.
Is there a way to fix that without starting all over again. I'm AM after all 62 years old and only have limited time to devote to Ipod problems.
My main player is a Sansa Fuze which works great but I want to use the Ipod at work through the Ihome radio thingy with speakers.
Thanks for your posting the directions.

Well without more specifics its hard to say, but it sounds like you don't have the iPod compatible folders option checked in the device options.pardes wrote:You know, I LOVE MediaMonkey almost as much as I disklike ITunes ..... but I'd never be able to work my way through those directions. Re: Unofficial but very helpful iPod/iTunes/MediaMonkey Hints
how do you arrange the order of tracks in an ipod? With itunes, i can do this by manually dragging the track to the order of my choice. with mediamonkey it seems as if it will drag, but when i release the clicked track to the desired location, it doesn't actually go to where i want it to.
Can anyone enlighten me on this?
