Re: NEW! AutoRateAccurate 2.4.0 (24/11/2008) - Simply better

Post by Big_Berny »

And again there's a new version with optimized AutoCalibration-algorithm. Most people won't notice that but for users with very fresh databases there should be some improvements. Also a new formula has been implemented. It's only based on the PlayCounter and the SkipCounter - so very primitive - but may also be interesting for these users which have problems with to high ratings when they play a song the first time.
Additionally a lot of little bugs have been fixed.

Version 2.3.7 to 2.4.0 (24/11/2008)
-Added: New formula which is only based on how much a song has been played and skipped. May be interesting for users with high-rating-problem.
-Changed: Handling with very fresh databases and low PlayCounters has been improved.
-Fixed: FirstPlayed-date now is also set when a song is skipped.
-Fixed: Problem when five-star-percentage set to 0.
-Fixed: Script ignored Enable/Disable-switch under some circumstances.
-Fixed: Some little bugs.

Have fun and report problems. Since I changed a lot of code there could be little typos but here it works perfectly. :)

Hi Peke!
Didn't know you look at my script. :)

The problem should be fixed in 2.4.1. By the way the problem was in a part of hte script where it checks if all songs have DateAdded. So you have songs with no DateAdded it seems which should never be the case IMHo. My script corrects this by simply filling that information with the oldest DateAdded in the library.

EDIT: Hope to see MM 3.1 soon! :) And cool that you can upload the files directly into the forum... ;)

So far i've been using this latest script for a while now, and what can i say, monumental effort. I'm super impressed and its lightening quick compared to the script of old. Keep up the good work mate, totally fantastic!

Maybe I am different - I do not know

Post by antiduplicity »

Greetings,
I tried this 20 days after I reinitialized by database so everything had a low play count. Also, I NEVER skip songs. If I hear something I really do not like, I wait until it is done playing and remove it from my system. My system has 12,800 songs.

Periodically, I will grab 50 from the "never played" playlist and play them to see if I have heard them recently or if I forgot to give them a rating. AutoRating gives them all 3.5 stars which is pretty high for the first play.

So, this is what I want: I want to know how to set it up so that first play gets 1 star and then it starts looking at how long it has been there and how many times I have played. If I give everything one star, autorate will not change it unless I tell it to not keep my ratings, then I cannot give something 5 stars if I really love it on the first play.

Perhaps I just need to know a description of that formula that is grayed out in the options box.

I think this is a great idea, I guess I just need to know how it works and why single play items get 3.5 stars.

Grace and Peace,

Michael

Hi antiduplicity,
Well the script doesn't give songs which have been played once a rating of 3.5. It depends on how much the other songs have been played too, because it just compares different songs by calculating the points with the formula and then gives the best ones 5 stars, the next best songs 4.5 stars and so on (depending on percentage-settings in the options).

So you can't just say: First play = 1 star.

How the formula works: The greyed out formula (custom formula) is the default formula by default but can be changed if you want. It works basically like this:
-The higher the playcounter, the higher the rating.
-The lower the SkipCounter, the higher the rating.
-The higher the PlayedPerDay (playcounter related to how long you already have the song), the higher the rating.
-The lower DaysSinceLastPlayed, the higher the rating.

So the reason why newely played songs get high ratings is the PlayedPerDay and the DaysSinceLastPlayed.

So a formula withou them may work better for you, at least at the beginning. I'd try the new preset formula which is based on Play- and SkipCounter only.

So, I am guessing that I just need to use this for a few months and get many of the zero plays played and then it will stable out. So, time is the key?

Also, what do you use for your signature?

Michael

Yes, because at the moment songs which have been played once are very good compared to the others. This will change when their playcounters rise. But as I said: The formula I told you should work better.

The signature-pic is created automatically by last.fm. So if you use their service you can use this graphics in forums or on websites.

Yeah, I know, it's getting a very big thread. :)
But the important informations are on the first page, so it' shouldn't be a problem. I just release more sub-versions (as I see no need to wait) and try to answer all posts. :)

So I'll do my best to win the race althoug it's difficult as he has a lot of fans (me included). :)

Re: NEW! AutoRateAccurate 2.4.2 (06/12/2008) - MM3.1-compatible

Post by Big_Berny »

Version 2.4.2 is available!

The changes:
-Added: Compatibility to MediaMonkey 3.1
-Changed: New variable OptPlayed available for formulas. It's kind of more accurate than Played.
-Fixed: Different unlogical things and bugs.

The optionsheet will be improved in the next version. Just needs some time which I don't have at the moment (exams) so I decided to release this version with the old optionsheet first.

Great Script! It works great with MM 3.1 but when I go back down to 3.0 I'm getting a "There was a problem querying the database: Error Executing SQL Update Songs SET SongPath=?, Artist=?,...." Followed by a other column options that end with =?.

Great work again and Thx.

Hi ugunit89,
thanks for your report. Could you also tell me at which line of the script the problem happens? You see that in the error-message, you can also make a screenshot of it. I need this info for fixing your problem.

If others have the same problem, here's the older version 2.4.1: http://www.berneker.ch/oldara/AutoRateA ... 1.mmip.zip

Good night :)
Big_Berny

PS: The newest version 2.4.2 works here on MM 3.0 too... So it may be another problem. But let's see!

Its most likely a problem with something in my MM because its also doing the same thing for your previous versions of ARA and also other scripts. So I'm going to try to find a solution. Any way the error message looked like this:
