Yes eyal, but I use a specific output dll designed for my purposes as I tried to explain in the quote you used. I still need MM to "feed" or "control" its output through the dll in a logrithmic fashion. It's good you have a specific dll that suits your needs and purposes but it will not work for me...I need MM to do it regardless of the dll....as in the iTunes example...of course iTunes is closed and there are no "custom" outputs available that I know about...
I'm no programmer, but because the MM EQ works as it does I assume MM would have the control to enable logrithmic volume control regardless of the output dll. Possibly it is too fundamental to the MM design to easily screw with...but it IS pretty ubuquitous for any audio device to have logrithmic output control- so even if it is a hassle- it would be worth the effort imo....and again, I do not think anyone could come up with a valid complaint against it...or even really notice a difference for the majority.
Would it be possible to allow "piggyback" output dll's? I could use eyal's dll to feed mine....
Input from the devs would be appreciated on this subject to clarify it for us.
(sorry I keep misspelling log a rithmic...lol)

Re: Volume Control Level Range Inquiry
Thanks for the input eyal but man that seems really complicated. How would it pertain to the issue presented here?
I definitely do not want ot introduce yet another layer of "stuff".
My system works perfectly now with basic, easy to use hardware and software.
I would just like MM to provide a basic log "volume" output control so I could use it as my system volume control.
Simple.
In everyday use I have multiple laptops on which multiple users run MM and output wirelessly to my audio system that is buried in a central location.
Depending on where a user is in the house the volume level needs to be adjusted...in some areas the speakers are very close to a user so a very low volume level is needed. It is currently not possible to "soften" the volume to an extremely low level without accessing the main power amp and lowering the main volume level(thereby making it too low for another user that needs maximum system volume at another time) this is because MM's output control is linear...
This is my situation...but as chriss points out...log volume control is pretty fundamental for any audio device.
Again...it seems simplest and most functional from a user perspective for MM to simply provide this basic and ubiquitous audio capability on its "volume slider" control...not leave it to various output dll coders.

RC cmx's description of what he sees matches what I see, and have seen on all other MM installations, and what I would expect. I see nothing to suggest you and he are seeing different behaviour, just hat you have difference expectations. FWIW.
okay i just don't like being told i'm arguing when i'm trying to get some help out to someone or some new info from someone.

okay i just took it was meant for me since i was the one that was trying to see if it was the way it was set up?cmx wrote:Thanks eyal, but I need to use a specific output dll from Remote Speakers for sending output to my network via Airport Express....rather than have all the individual output dll's do it I assumed the simplest and most practical solution would be for MM to have a "standard" log "volume slider".
Roving...I wasn't referring to you in the post and I was never really clear on what you were talking about in your posts. The audio components and outputs work fine on all my computers whether XP and Vista. I am asking for MM to devise volume controls; as iTunes uses described in the above post from chris, as the output dll eyal posted using the log configuration, and as pretty much any audio device with a volume control works. Sorry if there was confusion...but that is what I'm trying to avoid. MM's output is linear...there is no confusion about that.
or some piece of hardware and thats what you said you didn't want any posts like.
yes it is linear but monkey is growing so maybe they have this on the list of new or needed improvements.

Re: Volume Control Level Range Inquiry
there was an old out put plugin for winamp called stacker. it would allow the stacking of dll's it worked too.cmx wrote: Would it be possible to allow "piggyback" output dll's? I could use eyal's dll to feed mine....

just not sure if it will work in mm 3. you had to config the stacker and in its config panel you added the dll's you
wanted run at the same time. then you just used that stacker output plugin for your sound. i used it on winamp
to output mp3 files before winamp would do it normaly. and to it had to have the wav dll added so you could hear
what was being converted to mp3. it supported lots of other types of output plugins also. but it was a winamp2.x plugin. so it might not work with mm 3 although i can't see why one of the scripters here can not re create a simular script for mm 3.x

Re: Volume Control Level Range Inquiry
Thanks RC. I appreciate the effort. It would be great if this was a simple easy plugin I could pop in and forget.
This is representative of the many references I found for "stacker":
http://forums.winamp.com/showthread.php ... did=207987
While it might be interesting to play around with...ultimately I do not have the time to experiment with it...nor does anyone here that uses my system. It's not really clear if it would even work...If it did- I would then STILL have to download, install, configure and maintain yet another old dll mentioned by eyal, that is not associated with MM at all and may or may not be supported going forward...
This again points to the idea that the simplest and most appropriate solution for this most basic music player functionality should be provided internally by MM.

i read that whole thing. you linked too and thats a lot of trouble they got for that plugin. why you could do more with it then just break the drm its so dumb to do that. ms recorder can let you break the drm. one song at a time. so what was ms thinking of by making stacker get taken out of winamp. too bad they don't like the stacker idea it would be useful for different sound quailty plugins to be used.
