thanks for all the suggestions! We plan this kind of improvements and fixes for MM 4.0 which is currently in development, so you'll hopefully see it all in action soon...

Not to be pushy... but... do you have any estimate at all as to when MM 4.0 will be released (or available for beta testing)?

Also, will those of us who have a Gold license for 3.0 be able to upgrade for free or a discounted price? Thanks!

upon the time it is ready to be tested it will be posted. before that no announcement will be made other then it is in the development stage as jiri as just posted.

there is no way to pin a time schedule down. but you can look at the history of releases and take a good guess.
most the mm 3 releases have taken longer then expected cause of the much harder coding in it. and the many errors they find after it has been released as stable because many don't beta test to find the errors, so more beta testers are a direct inducation of a speeder release of the next stable version of mediamonkey. but most releases have been in the last part of the year in time for christmas. some have come in spring and summer but most are in the end of the year.

now as to which year mm 4 will be released i don't know.
right now were beta testing mm 3.1.2

No offence, but if you've bought an MM3.x license, why would you be given a copy of MM4.x for free? If you want a license that applied to all versions, buy a lifetime license.

No offense taken. But, to respond to your rude and rhetorical question, I was unaware, as I bought my license a while back, that there is such a thing as a lifetime license. And, I said "free" or at "a discounted price." In this day and age, people are less inclined and willing to pay for a program you can generally obtain for free (perhaps, in this case, a subpar version or application). It would be very nice of the MM team (and from my perspective, somewhat expected) to provide an upgrade discount to 4.x. Just my thoughts....

just a little FYI. trixmoto was not being rude IMHOP. he was just stating what he was thinking, he does all them codes and tends to type the same way as i do sometimes. and i just type with out considering what i am saying might sound rude. cause in my mind i am thinking of all the words that are to be typed but my fingers are blind some times and miss a word or two.

or like me i am typing away and an idea for a skin pops up and jumps on the train of thought, it makes the train derail for a second or two, and i have to get back on track. with him he does all them codes that a thought to fix a code might derail his train of thought.

yes it is not much known that there are two purchess lic.. versions.

1. free mediamonkey version. limited in some options.
2. gold mediamonkey version unlimited in options. has a run out date for lic of end of version number as 2 to 3 need new lic. 3 to 4 need new lic, 4 to 5 need new lic, and so on.
3. lifetime gold mediamonkey version unlimited in options. including lic run out date.

last i had heard that was done for people whom might only want the program for that version and not come back to get next version because the don't like change. and wont change until the one they bought stops working cause of os changes.

and the others that want the program from now till the end of the computers or when the lord jesus comes back.
get the life time lic. if they want all the options.

if not then the free one works fine for them.

also a little bit about the difference of the free or the purchess version.

free version has an option to make auto playlists that are basic and limited.
this limit is that the auto playlist seems to be made by keeping the names of all the songs for the playlist in the database for the playlists.
this can be rather huge. say a list of 2000 songs in the free version will have all 2000 songs in the database and again in the playlist section on the database making your mm db file get huge fast. and if you have normal playlists the same way they also do the same thing.

now in both versions of the lic versions the auto playlist can do the same above but with the advanced options for the auto playlists you can set a set of rules for the list. so there is not any need for the names of the songs to be stored in the playlists area of the database. this is done by making the auto playlist have a set time for the list to be played by filling the list with a number of songs or any amount of songs that equal that time from any genere or any other rule option like bpm or file size or artist name.
this puts only that amount of code needed to store the rules in to the database and keeps the song names in the other storage area of the database. making it a slimmer database.

so if you have a huge library and want to make multiple playlists to use it is best to buy the mediamonkey lic that fits your needs, as to using the free one.

of course the free one using room like that does not matter too much on cpu's of fast speed and large ram systems.

This happened with 2.x -> 3.x license I really do not see why this should not happen with 3.x -> 4.x along that all Lifetime users will be able to fully test MM 4.x Alpha/Beta/... as they are released until you are being able to purchase 4.x license.

I haven't found individual bugs to track (just the 2746 which is quite "generic" or more about the DWM theming issue).

As the beta of MM4 seems to be in the making I wonder what we can expect

Just wanted to speak up and thank lf0 for his continued efforts on this front.

I've had a lifetime license for a few years now and gone through XP, Vista, and now Windows 7 and always use the non-skinned version because its lightweight and I've never really cared for any of the skins. MM always felt out of place in Vista and Windows 7 (especially with regards to selecting tracks from within albums in the "Show Album Art with Details" view). There are a few more issues, but overall, I think lf0 has done an excellent job documenting them, and I hope he'll continue his efforts.

I love MediaMonkey. It is an asset to any person seriously interested in keeping their music files in order.

My only gripe with the Monkey is that it's ugly. I currently use the "Gilded" skin, as it is the most attractive theme that I've found.

Windows 7 integration would make this program the best music organizing tool for the PC.

Please, update the non-skinned Monkey with something simple, attractive, and aesthetically integrated into Windows 7.

I recently moved to Windows 7 from XP. never used Vista (don't get me started). Have used MM for years, and I love it. I have to agree with the OP, the look of MM is a bit 1990's. I agonized over this and went through several players after my Win 7 install to try to find a better player.

There is no better player than MM IMHO. So I am using it and I am happy with it, but it would be nice to see it get a graphical facelift in a future relase. Not a high priority, however.

My 2 cents worth.

what? a gui face lift. well gee let me see now? i did 21 or 22 of them eyal has done 18 or 19 of them.
and others have done a few of them. about 80 of them in all? you can't find one you like?

No, not a one, the Helium skins are the closest but that's because they make Mediamonkey look liek Helium which I don't want, I want the same as kevingarywilkes and Chazcon, an update of the non-skined version to intergrate much better with Windows 7

I'm not tallking about a skin, I'm talking about a complete conceptual redesign of the UI of MM to bring it into the new age and look of current/modern software.

modern is a joke for design all that means is old stuff that young ones have not seen before is then called modern so the warehouses can sale the stuff that was made years ago.

but if that is the same in software i don't think so since software is not really stored in the warehouse's. its too out dated before it gets to the shelf.

but i don't see any improvements in the new stuff only the way they skin the new stuff. and that will need to be changed in the theme engine by petrcbr if he is still doing the engine fix's

even win 7 looks like it uses the same gui theme engine for the shell only with better features then xp.
