Static pop resolved issue but new prblem for me.

Post by GRW »

I have just started to hear static clicks and pops on my songs and found this thread.
http://www.mediamonkey.com/forum/viewto ... =6&t=42671
I didn't realised that was closed until I had entered the details. It seems it has been resolved but has just started for me. Have I missed something? Was this thread not talking about my issue at all. I have pasted my message below (mine was the last post on page 4):

I am using version 3.2.0.1294 and am a Gold user. I have been using this for years and getting exasperated as everytime I "fix" an issue, another rears its ugly head!

I have just started to hear a static click/pop at random points on a song. If I go back to that point, I cannot reproduce the pop. I am listening to 320kbps tracks and haven't altered any settings. Is this the same as the issue on this thread or do I need to post a new thread? If it is the same, this issue has just started as new for me as opposed to being a fixed old issue for the users in this thead.

MM is set at 89db. The equaliser is off and I am using the standard functions of the player. The only thing I have altered since this issue appeared is that I have played around with the equaliser but not getting the sound I required, I set it all back to default and switched it off. This couldn't possibly be the issue would it?

After months of altering EVERY filepath and library track after a HD failure messed it up, I WILL BE SO ANGRY if all my playlists burn with these pops on them. It will blow my car speakers up!

Make sure you have the correct sound device selected for the enabled output plugin (Tools > Options > Output plug-ins) or try switching output plugin. Also what file types does this occur with?

I am using standard PC speakers connected via the speaker jack and the output plugin is the standard MediaMonkey DirectSound. The files are all 320kbps MP3s ripped using WMP (as MM still locks up the pc when a disc is entered - no resolution could be found for this) and burned using MM. I haven't had this issue in the 4 years or so I have been doing this.

It says Primary Sound Driver and not Sigma Tel Audio, is that wrong? If it should be Sigma Tel I have not altered that and there is an issue with this box resetting itself as I had a previous issue with blanks not playing and the checkbox that had reset itself is also in the same dialogue box!

You should try changing to Sigma Tel Audio, does that work?

You could try the MAD plugin available here: http://www.mediamonkey.com/addons/input-output/ or switch to the other output plugin.

Thanks, I will give that a try tomorrow and let you know the results. I take it, if this worked, that this would resolve the playing issue and that burning should not be affected and burn as usual?

I don't really understand different input/output plugins and have read that many hate the inbuilt MM ones for sound quality but I couldn't find any info anywhere. Do you have a link that explains it to a beginner?

Burning should not be affected. Not sure if there is anything that explains this all very well.

Input and output plugins have absolutely no affect at all on burning. If you're having issues with static and pops after you burn, the problem is your audio files, not MM.

I can't tell you (at the moment) how pleased I am to hear that! These files have been here for a while, some a lot newer. All that have been burnt in the past have burnt fine and need doing again to update with new tracks and I have listened to them on the pc without issue as well. Its only the last couple of weeks or so since I played with the equaliser (now all off). The files shouldn't have corrupted and, as the same distortion isn't heard when I go back to the same part of the song, I doubt they are.

I am very happy (with VERY firmly crossed fingers) that this issue isn't as bad as I thought. Of course I will like them to go but burning is my primary function!

Are you saying you only having popping when listening to burned CD's? Do you have the pops in MediaMonkey or in other software/hardware?

No sorry, I have been having to update manually ALL playlists and artists as MM has duplicated them and given them wrong filenames. The pops I am hearing is when I am listening to them on MM while I do it ie listening to my library whilst working on MM. I wont be burning again until all have been updated and new discs ripped.

Haven't tries another player yet as easier to play and work on one at a time.

Duplication might be caused by the fact that you moved tracks outside of MediaMonkey. Does one copy grey out? Do the tracks show under the Library > Files to Edit > Dead Links node?

Do you hear pops when you're editing the track that is playing or when editing other tracks than the one playing?

The tracks each have 4 filepaths, 2 wrong and that have never been in the directory stated, 1 correct and 1 correct with wrong tags and no associated playlists etc. I had to quickly backup the HD as it was failing but didn't do it via MM and had to do the drive ID script. I am not too concerned here as a previous thread kind of confirmed that that was the only resolution and I am about 75% done now - providing no more shocks!!!!!! Something always seems to pop up on MM to surprise me lately!!!!

The tracks are popping on both. I might have a playlist playing in the background whilst editing the library, but it also occurred when no editing was being done and music was just playing as any player would do. I cant, it appears, reproduce the issue itself.

As advised above try either MAD or switching output plugins.
