Changing Properties interrupts playing?

Changing Properties interrupts playing?
I don't seem to recall noticing this before, but can't be sure. When I'm playing a track and I bring up the Track Properties dialog and make a change, on clicking OK I get a short interrruption or hiccup in the playing. Is that inevitable (so that file can be amended)? I thought maybe MM could play it from memory, allowing that problem to be avoided?

This occurs because you are writing the track properties to the file tag. Not sure if the developers can fix this or not. Workaround if it really annoys you is to not auto-sync properties.

Thanks, but don't understand what you mean by 'not auto-sync properties'? Is that some setting I can't find? No hits in Help on 'auto-sync', 'autosync', 'sync'...trixmoto wrote:This occurs because you are writing the track properties to the file tag. Not sure if the developers can fix this or not. Thanks. Assume you mean the first slider 'Buffer', set by default to 2000 ms? Tried that, but it had strange result. On clicking OK the interruption was shorter - but then a little later there was a large silent gap!agentsmart wrote:you could go in to the direct sound config or in the wav playback config
and adjust your buffer up to 5 seconds and see if that gives enough in the memory for it to stop the skipping when the song is over wrote doing sync'in?

The buffer idea would be better if you can get it to work but I've had problems with this too.

Thanks, got it. If it's unchecked, so that tags are not updated immediately, when are they updated? But anyway, I reckon I'll live with the 'hiccup', as I really do like the confidence that comes from knowing my track data is truly up-to-the-minute.trixmoto wrote:"Tools, Options, Library, Tags & Playlists, Update tags when editing properties"

You have to select the tracks you have changed an click "Tools, Advanced Tag Management, Synchronize Tags" or Ctrl+S. Personally I prefer the reassurance that comes with a small glitch - it confirms to me that the tags have been changed! This only annoyed me when I was rating all my songs (so changing the tags of the song I was playing everytime). Normally I am editing different tags to the ones I am playing.

I've just finished rating my 7410 songs manually! That took some doing. I found so many tracks I haven't played in years! Year and Genre are next on my fix list. I wish the amazon site gave you genre for albums.

I know this is an "old" matter, but...
Wouldn't it be possible for MediaMonkey to measure how long the tagging of a song takes (start timer on song stop, stop it on song continue) and then advance the playback time with that, just before the song continues. Then it would be like the sound dropped out for the tagging time, but the song continued playing if you don't use any buffering).
If you set the buffer of the output plugin large enough, the drop-out would be filled from the buffer, and you wouldn't hear it. The only thing you would maybe hear is a very little "echo" when the buffered piece goes over in the song that continues (using fading), but even that could be corrected I think. If MediaMonkey can do this fast enough, you wouldn't hear any difference.
I just don't want to use the "tag later..." function because I would have way to much unsychronised songs, and I already have a lot of them now (with directly tagging).
Cheers

Extensions: ExternalTools, ExtractFields, SongPreviewer, LinkedTracks, CleanImport, and some other scripts (Need Help with Addons > List of All Scripts).
I would have thought that buffering could be users (by the developers) to fix this problem completely. Wouldn't it be possible to simply copy the next 3 seconds into a buffer and play the buffer whilst the file is being tagged, and then simply switch from the buffer to the track in a seemless join? It makes sense to me, but maybe there are practical issues I am unaware of?
