MM Ratings inaccurate on Windows 7 **Resolved**

Post by bushbomb »

I recently switched to Windows 7 64bit from Vista 32bit. In short, I have a lot of songs rated 3 stars, and MM shows them as 2.5 stars.

I've used MM to rate all of my music, and windows still shows the MP3s as having 3 stars, but in MM they are not. How can I correct this?

Why not just select them all in MM with 2.5 stars, right click > Properties > Re-rate as 3 stars?

Many of the ratings are wrong, I was just using the 3 stars and 2.5 stars as an example. I have real songs rated 2.5, and I don't want them to be rated 3 stars by selecting all "2.5" stars and changing the rating in MM. I checked a 2 star song and MM shows it as 1 star. MM did not do this on my Vista, only when I installed a fresh copy of Windows 7 64bit.

http://www.mediamonkey.com/forum/viewto ... 4008#44008 number 14.....
Intel 8500, 4Gb ram, 500Gb HD, MM 3.2.0.1294, no plug ins, no scripts, Media player installed but not used. Songs on local HD.

Everything is on a clean install of Windows 7. I can view the correct ratings on my Sansa portable media player, Windows Explorer, and on my Vista Laptop (all having identical copies of my Music folder). MM on the new Windows 7 64bit PC is showing incorrect ratings on tons of songs. I did notice that 4 star ratings seem to still be 4 stars. 3 stars show up as 2.5, and 2 stars show up as 1 star.

you rated them with mediamonkey didn't you?

as per your last post you describe a different error then mine, can you do a debug report and send it in to support.
your error might just give them enough data on these that they can fix both yours and mine..

because mine just shows half a star different on the mediamonkey player.
then what is being showed in the ratings column in the listview.

so you seem to have a huge difference in the stars on many different songs.

from vista to win 7. um? could it be that vista had been messing up the codes before,
no!
cause it works in other players you said.

strange do that debug for them so we can get both our errors fixed.

Did you use a script to rate or only MediaMonkey itself for manual rating?

How do I do a debug? All my music has been manually rated inside Media Monkey. I've never rated a song using another program, or with a script. When music is playing, I click the star rating at the bottom and that's it.

Fixed the problem....
I did File, Clear Library, yes to the prompts.
Reopened MediaMonkey (it auto-scanned my folders) and the exact same songs now show the correct rating. Apparently it is a problem with the MM database. Unfortunately I have to recreate all the auto-playlists again, but at least the ratings work now.

Ok, so my Windows 7 laptop has the same issue, (ie: a 3 star song shows up in MM as 2.5 stars). I cleared the library and nothing changed. It keeps reading the ratings incorrectly. What can I do?

The laptop has MM version 3.2.1.1297.

Have you tried Synchronizing Tags on your tracks on the machine where the ratings show correctly?

What I'm wondering is if this is due to rating in an old version where ratings were done differently, but that would be an old version and still seems strange to me.

Well, I guess it turns out that there were only about 7 songs out of 3000 rated that were jacked up on the laptop. I exported the "3 star" and "2.5 star" rated list from one PC and the laptop, did a compare to figure out what songs, and then on the laptop (having the problem w/ some songs) manually re-rated the songs corrrectly on that laptop. All reads fine after that, so I'll just mark it up to a glitch in MM, but it's only 7 songs, so I don't really care now, just was annoying.

I thought it was a lot again, like the first post I did above....what are the odds that I happen to check one particular album and it had some of the inaccurate songs in it? Oh well.
