MY MUSIC WON'T PLAY

Post by BROWNIDCHICK »

I have purchsed my iPod a couple of weeks ago. I have noticed that if I do not turn on the iPod for a couple of days, all of the songs which I have stored on the iPod do not play when I start it up. It will run through the list and only play a few of them. Has anyone else had this problem???

Sounds like a hardware issue.

Definitely an iPod problem, not MM.

Try formatting (I don't have an iPod but I'm sure the manual explains how to wipe it completely) and reloading all your songs from scratch.

My iPod mini with iPod-software version 1.3 plays all songs perfectly. The moment I update to 1.4 all seems OK, but the ipod skips all songs without playing them.
I had the songs nice in my own music directory and with longer filenames on the ipod as made possible by MM. So that is no longer possible or i have to stick to version 1.3

The 'solution' is to 'force iTunes style folders' (go to the ipod device options - device configuration) AND to force 'trimming the total pathname to 31'

Then on my ipod mini everything plays OK.

Probably something with the ipod version 1.4 database. I would like to have the old possibility back. Easy when with friends and not having MM on their computer for instance.

ipod firmware

Post by rusty »

As far as i can tell, it's an iPod firmware issue. 'Custom' directories don't even work when the length is shortened to 12 characters.

:(

I have seen this happen on my 60gig iPod video. It only happens how ever wh I am trying to sync my Podcasts from iTunes and my music from MM.

If I soley sync from MM I dont have an issue (I believe I also have to force iTunes-style folders)..

I have tried reseting my iPod using the iPod updater and immediately turned of automatic sync in iTunes. Even with the iPod clean, iTunes disabled and iPod folders active, nothing makes it to the iPod.

iPod compatibility

Post by rusty »

IEArmand,

I can confirm that on the iPod Mini, if the device's firmware has been updated to v1.4, then the following _must_ be enabled--otherwise tracks on the device cannot be played:

[x] Force iTunes-style folders
[x] Trim Path and/or Filename length to 31

Regards,
Rusty
