auto-playlists takes forever to load sometimes
Hi,
Sometimes it takes forever for an autoplaylist to open. I attached to debug log snippets during these occasions:

Re: auto-playlists takes forever to load sometimes
your setting for mediamonkey background items might be set to low. and you having it that way when your doing things on the computer makes it rough to load fast.
or if you have half the amount of ram the system can hold it will be slow.
win xp only holds 3 gb's but win 7 is unlimited except by the motherboard makers.
get as much ram as you can get as that ram is also used for resource ram as of windows xp. so all the programs running
use that ram and use it up. since the new way of using ram for resource's the program developers of many other programs
do not make them use the bare min of ram they need so most new programs are ram hogs. mediamonkey is still being made to use only what it needs. but it needs more and more with all the new updated features in it.
also try a program called bill's2 process manager , its freeware and has the ablity to set the priority of programs to higher prioritys and keep it sat there after reboots.
don't adjust any of the windows system's stuff, but you can up mediamonkey to higher priority and get the background stuff
running faster that way.
of course even with all of that if you have some really hard rules for monkey to look for he is going to slow down a little to look for those rules.

Re: auto-playlists takes forever to load sometimes
Hi,
I am using win 7 prof and 4 GB of ram.
in this case I was only using MM and waiting for the result.
An autoplaylist looking for all tracks in a certain folder - is that to be considered as a sophisticated rule?!
So this playlist in question had only one rule which was to look for a certain name in a path and list it's tracks. And there is only one folder matching. This is nothing I'd consider sophisticated in any way..
cheers,
Bernhard

Try to maintain your database (File > Maintain library) and defragment the database file.

Re: auto-playlists takes forever to load sometimes
okay since ram does not seem to be the trouble and the database is taken care of weekly then the only thing i can think of left to try is to get a registry cleaner for your operating system and run it. i use asuslogic's reg cleaner see if it works on your system its free and if that does the trick good. but if only helps a little. then i'm thinking you might need to defragment your registry also. so find one of those that works on your op system. there are some free ones. all they do is
remove the vacant lines in the registry and make it smaller in size which helps the system find the hotkeys faster, which helps with speed a little, its what they use to call tune up on the old 98 systems.
other then that stuff i can't think of anything that would slow it down so if none of that works make a debug log and send it in to support so they can try and figure it out.

Re: auto-playlists takes forever to load sometimes
Bernhard,
I can't replicate this issue. Does the problem only occur with an autoplaylist where criteria are 'Filename/Path' contains <drive>:/path ? I tried to replicate, but cannot.
On the other hand, as described at http://www.ventismedia.com/mantis/view.php?id=7985 , robojock indicated that he sometimes finds that 'Find more from same' results in delays of _minutes_ to open the files. I wonder if these two issues are related.
So far I haven't been able to replicate such huge delays in either case.

Re: auto-playlists takes forever to load sometimes
Hm, did not check that, I'll try to check if it only happens with path/filename operations..
besides the fact that my win 7 installation is not very old, so registry should not be to much of a mess - why is the windows-registry such an issue useing MM4 portable?! how can win registry interfere with search result in MM?

Portable installations don't use the registry at all.beg wrote:Hm, did not check that, I'll try to check if it only happens with path/filename operations..

Re: auto-playlists takes forever to load sometimes
that's what I thought and that's why I think that the idea of register-cleaning/tweaking is of no use in this matter..

Re: auto-playlists takes forever to load sometimes
ok it is NOT related to file/path queries.
I just opened a fresh install of MM4 without any addons.
as fresh MM4 database with my music.
no background process going on.
Selecting an autoplaylist showing all 4-5* rated tracks and 5 different genres took about 30 seconds to load. (~2500 tracks a result)
how does the debugging work on MM4 portable? I installed the debug version, but I don't know how to get the logging information..

Re: auto-playlists takes forever to load sometimes
You need to download the debugviewer program, it's all explained in a stickied post in the bug reports forum...
