I've been pondering the same thing today, especially considering my lack of understanding of the steps, consequences, and what it all involves.nohitter151 wrote: Have you considered whether all this backup of registry keys is worth your time?
As I stated in my very first post, I was trying to restore my missing menu and toolbars. I would like the least loss of UI settings and playlists. I was trying to avoid having to set everything back up, as I do a bit of customization to help with tagging. It is quite time consuming. I was being as cautious as possible.nohitter151 wrote: I don't know what exactly you're trying to accomplish.
I've had several computer crashes. There either were no backups, the backups were corrupted, or the installer couldn't figure out how to restore the databases and settings. (They even asked here! I asked here too!!) It gets pretty tiresome trying to rebuild all your playlists and restore lost settings. For me, it would take more than 5 minutes to restore everything. I'd rather spend the time being ultra-conservative, rather than deleting and reinstalling, if I can prevent it, as that seems like the last resort. And what if I haven't backed up the correct database and ini files? What if they don't restore properly? Then I'm sunk. I just can't bear to go thru all this again. While I undertand its easy to delete and reinstall, if data is lost, then it will cost countless hours restoring it all back.
I just don't understand some of the tech abbreviations and directions that have been given here. I AM willing to ask questions and learn. I CAN come up to speed. (Well, as much as a novice can.) I don't mean to waste everyone's time. The bottom line is: I just don't want to lose my data and settings again. Once I push the button to delete MM, there's no going back.
