[Bug] Playlist Sync inside MM for Android

Post by sebish »

Bug Reports:

Bug #1: Wifi Sync

MediaMonkey does not sync playlists correctly.
  • Platform: Windows 7 x64 MMW beta build 4.1.1.1697 / Android 4.2 MMA build 233 on HTC One XL
Software: Mediamonkey free / Mediamonkey app premium
    Sync: Wifi Sync
Versions: Most recent version Desktop and Android
Errors: No errors shown during the sync process.

Bug: The playlists are all ony the phone and inside MMA, but missing random number of songs inside MediaMonkey for Android.
Details: The m3u playlists inside the 'playlists' folder at the phone are complete and fully correct.
The mp3-files are all there inside the music folder at the phone and can be played by genre/file.
Playlist "Aktuell" has 73 songs on Desktop MM and 33 songs on android MM. Chillout 94 / 19. Next 500+ / 133.
A friend has exactly the same issue with an other smartphone. Is this still the error from 2007 or is this a new one?

Additional Info:
  • The M3U Playlist files in the 'HTC One XL\Interner Speicher\storage\sdcard0\Playlists' folder on the device are missing these number of songs too! The paths inside are correct: '/storage/sdcard0/Music/'. Inside Media Monkey the playlists are missing a huge number of tracks too. Default music player shows the same PL info like MMA (missing songs).
Example names of missing songs: "AC4 Black Flag - Sea Shantys - Leave Her Johnny", "Audrey Hannah - Its december (and I'll be missing you)".
  • When i go to UPNP, PC library and select a playlist of mine, it shows the correct playlist and streaming works too. So i guess the bug is inside MMA?
A friend has exactly the same issue too (not HTC phone) and here topic is the same too. He has HTC One too. Could this be a problem with the HTC android?

Bug #2: Sending Playlist via USB
  • When i use USB and 'Send Playlist to -> Phone', it only works with 4 Playlists. Later it were 5. Every playlist sent after these, gets #1 not even created on phone or #2 created with all songs(!) and deleted some minutes or hours later. In both cases MMW sends all mp3s, they are all inside the folder on the phone and there is only 1 Artwork error at MMW after sending.
Optional: Windows Frame not disappearing @MMW

The Windows frame including min, max, close does not disappear. Only if you start MMW in compatibility mode Winxp SP3.

Optional: Shuffle style dislike @MMA

I do not like the way, the android app shuffles a playlist. I really would appreciate the same shuffle style like on MMW or the stock music player on android. ATM it shows the playlist in order and if i click on a song to play him, i think the shuffle is gone? Or am i'm wrong?

Fixing Reports:

It looks like i found the reasons for bug#1 and fixed it. It is probably the same cause for bug#2.
I think you have to change the default settings for the MMW. Tell you in some hours.

It looks like the bug has nothing to do with doubled songs in multiple playlists. At the moment i think, it is a problem with the name structure on the android devices. I updated my MMW to beta and set the configuration of the external device under MMW options to the following:
  • Click on your device, configure (top right) -> options -> storage location (or alike) and change Music and classical Music to \Music\<Folder>\<file name> or in german \Music\<Ordner>\<Dateiname>. You can see the syntax by clicking the >> button.
  • Then go to Playlists in the same configuration and change playlist format to M3U, if your device supports that format and if it is not already set.
After that everything was perfect after just 1 sync process. I also have the same folderstructure on my phone as on the pc, which is quite useful.
If this status stays stable until weekend, i will test it with a friends device too.

Sorry for multiple posting, but i want to keep the bug report clean.

So now, here is kind of a half workaround:

The bug seems only to appear when using wifi-sync. Check that 'Sync this location' is activated in app settings and delete everything in your music folder.
Connect the phone via USB to the pc, right click on your playlist and choose 'send to: Phone(sync)'. This works for me. The first 4 playlists are complete and playable.
The other playlists disappeared from the folder and app at the next day. I copied them back in and then i had the same problem like when using Wifi sync. The playlists were there, but they only had a few songs in them. Now i send the playlists again from pc, but i am afraid they will be gone tomorrow again :(

As you can see, the bug not only appears using wifi-sync.

Edit 1: After sending the first 4 playlists successfully, now mm only sends the songs and the sent playlist does neither appear in MM nor in the 'playlists' folder....
Since the 5th playlist, i need convert the playlists with a script, copy them manually into the 'playlists' folder and then send the playlist to the phone again. This way it works again. :x

Hi Isomorph,

I haven't replicated this yet, but it would speed things along if you could tell me:
- Sometimes in your report you indicate that something happened with MM, but I'm not clear if you're referring to MMW or MMA. Can you edit your posts to make that clear?
- Re. the files that failed to display in the playlist, is it possible that they didn't sync because they need to be converted to play on the device and conversion is failing? Do you get an error re. failed conversion?
- Which version of MMW you're using (release 4.1.0.1692 or beta build 4.1.1.1697). If not 1697, please upgrade.
- Are you testing with MMA build 233 ? I assume yes, but if not, please upgrade.
- If you can replicate the issue with build MMA233/MMW1697, can you send logs for both after replicating? Please send a debug log for MMW, and post a Debug Log ID for MMA (via the 'About' menu), and indicate the files/playlists that didn't sync correctly for that particular operation.

That should hopefully accelerate a fix to this.

Thanks!

I'm not sure if this is the bug you're experiencing, but I see that if there are duplicate tracks in the MMW library, and both tracks are on playlists that are auto-synced, then the second track won't sync. Hopefully that's what you're experiencing--please confirm.

Very nice to see that you are active in here!

@Rusty's 2nd Post:

I have the same songs in multiple folders on the PC, but not all of them. This could be my problem in combination with another issue.

I just saw that the settings for MMA in MMW were not what i wanted. My selfmade script could not have worked ever. Just trying sync of one playlist with new folder structure. Will report after that.

That should be no problem.

On MMW (Windows client) go to Menu -> Extras -> Options (i have the german skin, just go to options panel).
External Devices, search your device. For me it is named Vodafone. If you cannot find it, do the step for all of them.

Click on your device, configure (top right) -> options -> storage location (or alike) and change Music and classical Music to \Music\<Folder>\<file name> or in german \Music\<Ordner>\<Dateiname>. You can see the syntax by clicking the >> button. Then go to Playlists and change playlist format to M3U, if your device supports that format.

I guess this should do it.

thank you but my phone supports it by for some reason going to the phone over usb is just not allowing m3u files to be used on the phone? might be something motorola is doing in their software that causes the change to the pls files? :x :(

Rovingcowboy,

Can you generate a debug log in MMW that illustrates you syncing a single playlist resulting in the creation of the incorrect playlist file?

Thanks.

1) I still have the windows frame around MMW on Windows 7 x64.

2) The broken playlists problem on MMA Sync got completely fixed by changing the folder structure inside MMW -> Devices -> ... to music/'<folder>/<filename>'. This should be default settings in future MMW versions.

3) Does the shuffled playlist stay, when i i click on a song on it? I would like it better, if MMA/MMW would randomly jump to a random track inside the existing playlists.

Best regards, you are doing great!
