Hi Philby,
To edit tag names in Mp3DirectCut:

1. navigate into the section that you want to name
eg, if you have a cut at 1'10 and 1'30, goto somewhere like 1'28
that is, the cursor should be between the two cue points.

2. Edit> Names and Part properties or Ctrl-N to pull up the naming dialog

3. Enter your names and click ok

.. As the file plays in mp3directcut, the name of the current cue is displayed

For extracting individual tracks from a cue sheet, I use cue splitter (http://www.enfis.it/details.php?id=42).. this is also useful for renaming cues

have fun!!
[edit] If you find mp3directcut useful, you really need to RTFM... It's very powerful, small and fast, but most functionality is hidden and requires close reading of the c:\program files\mp3directcut\readme.htm file

Thanks Anon Coward,
I did RTFM. I did not find mention of any of your advice. I was first looking for the keystrokes you mentioned, and it looks to me as though the "manual" is pretty skimpy.

I agree, Mp3DirectCut is a wonderful bit of software, but the manual is less than optimal...

However, after studying it, I figured out that key combination (B N C) for cue sheet manipulation... mind you, I studied it for 2 years before figuring it out...

I imagine that I'll be able to use MediaMonkey properly in about 18 months :)
