MM5 DB back to MM4

Post by svechap »

Hello. I moved my MM4 music library database from old computer to new with MM5. But MM5 has many errors and bugs. So i want to come back to MM4. I installed it and copied MM5 database to MM4. Now every time i start it there is error message: "The database file C:\Users\User\AppData\Roaming\MediaMonkey\MM.DB (version 5.0.63) isn't fully compatible with MediaMonkey 4. It is recommended that you use it exclusively with MediaMonkey 5 to avoid possible data corruption". How can i propertly move database back to MM4?

What errors and bugs did you come across in MediaMonkey 5?

Last time i tried just add new files to music library (Rescan library) and it reset my mp3 edited tags back to 2 month ago before editing. I can't understand why songs don't added automatically and why rescan edit tags. It's also hard to navigate inside and often happen little errors, like cancelling selected songs. It's very annoying, MM4 was more stable.

That behavior depend on multiple settings eg. Tools -> options -> Library -> Tags & Playlists where if you disable Update on Edit Tags will not be saved to Files, so if you enable Update Library tags on rescan it will pull out tags from files (non updated) and update library with them, reason why you gey old data on rescan. See my settings where I ensure all changes are in tags and rescan will not affect Library.

Regarding Navigation MM5 can be made to almost look like MM4 except some layout settings and positions but browsing can be set to look same.

If you supply screenshot of MM4 (see my signature on how to do that), we can give you instructions how to set MM5 to look/behave almost same.

As for issues if you can replicate them each time please provide steps and it will dealt ASAP.

p.s. to add to the above, MM5 DB can't be downgraded to MM4 format with 100% compatibility. If you prefer to use MM4 over MM5, the best option would be to restore your MM4 backup of C:\Users\User\AppData\Roaming\MediaMonkey\MM.DB

If you do not have backup, please open a support ticket, and I can try to manually convert copy data from MM5 DB to MM4 DB in order not to give you warning, but I can't give guaranties that it will work (eg. all data will be there, even it should in 99% of cases) and will not introduce corruption in future.

Make sure you try it with MediaMonkey 5.0.4 as many fixes have been included in the updates.

Automatic scanning is available in MediaMonkey as Folder Monitoring.

You may want to disable the option to Infer properties as it will guess tags from filenames on scanning. Otherwise getting old tags may indicate that either the new tags weren't saved to the files or that it wasn't saved correctly.
