Add DFX plugin for better sound
I used this with MusicMatch, which sucks now, really adds alot to the music.

You can already use it with MediaMonkey. Just install the Winamp version.
But I disagree to add it (and all other "soundoptimizers") by default. Because I really like to hear the music like it was produced. Because if the artist liked these effects (3D for example) he would already add it by himself.

true i think most new artist's or artist's that started when computer sound was in full force know what to add to their songs to make it sound good.Big_Berny wrote:You can already use it with MediaMonkey. Just install the Winamp version.

but then you got the record companys that think they know better some times and they screw it up..
then again each sound system is different so all songs released are kind of dummyed down so they will sound good on all the systems.
this can be heard when at a live conncert and then hearing the song over the radio or off of an album they don't use the same volume for the bass like they do at the conncert.
it is possible to put the bass over the air but it takes more power and it would just mess up the radios that don't have the means to adjust the bass.
and the cdroms are mostly normaized for 16 bit systems if you get 24 or 32 bit cdroms you are going to pay for them and then you better have a system to here them or your stuck with the 16 bit sound.
just all in all better to have the choice of dfx software but having it intsalled as default would / could lead to troublesome arguments over why one was chose and the one they liked was not?
i use the simple old wide and dynmic plugin for winamp it is good on my 16 bit all it does is what i am needing or wanting anyway.

Re: DFX
true... but i seriously hope most ppl out here don't settle for 128 kbps anymore these days... there was a day when i even though 96 was acceptable.... nowadays i regret having ripped most of my CDs in 192 kbps CBR and then giving them away, as i prefer 192, 224 or even 256 kbps VBR for the ideal balance between quality and size.cadnukes wrote:I agree, I don't used the 3D effect at all, but the software certainly adds depth and richness back to flat 128 bit MP3s.

I use Sound Blaster X-Fi soundcard which has some DSP plug-ins build in and for years my favorite winamp DSP plug-in Bobware Stereo Delay Plugin 2.0 (http://www.winamp.com/plugins/details.php?id=3906) which is on all the time and I just highly recomment it. It makes sence whether your sound system is high or low quality. A small, efficient stereo expander which works great!
I personally dislike DFX.

While we're on the topic...
I noticed there's a small bug with DFX and Media Monkey.
Even though it supposedly can be configured so that it does NOT open the DFX window when MM starts (just process in the background)
I find that it actually opens it every time. Not a big deal but a bit of a bummer.

MCSmarties,
How did you get that to work? By using the Winamp plug-in?
I had downloaded the Winamp plug-in but it wouldn't install because I don't have Winamp installed. I can't see installing Winamp just to use a plug-in for MM.
sasapuksic,
DFX is the only app I've tried, I hadn't heard of this other plug-in but I'd be interested in trying it. I think the point is to add something along these lines to make up for the loss that the MP3 format introduces. Something better then the built in EQ.

Cadnukes:
1. Install the basic version of Winamp (or maybe just create the folder named Winamp in your Programs files folder – haven’t tried that one out)
2. Install the DFX in to the winamp as the setup wants.
3. Copy the DSP folder in the Winamp/Plugins directory to the MediaMonkey/Plugins directory
4. Copy the file dsp_dfx.dll from the Winamp/Plugins directory to the MediaMonkey/Plugins directory
5. Start MM and go to Tools/Options/DSP Plug-ins and enable the DFX plugin
That should work fine …
PM me if problems ...

This way is easier and works here too:
1. Create a winamp.exe in the MedieMonkey-folder.
2. Start DFX-setup, choose the MedieMonkey-folder and click install.
3. Start MediaMonkey and go to Tools/Options Plug-Ins and enable DFX.

PS: Maybe a fake winamp.exe (with version information of winamp 2.x) should be included in the mm-setup by default? Opera did the same once with netscape.exe. Would be very useful for some plugins...

Thanks all for replying; I have installed DFX using the fake “Winamp.exe” choice. Work great.
My concern now would be that we are somewhat promoting Winamp rather MediaMonkey. It may be nice not to “re-invent” the wheel because these plug-ins are already out there but doesn’t it seem to take the focus off of MediaMonkey being the single product of choice? I probably wrong but I would to see these “fixes” coming from MM, which I believe is a “soon to be” great product.

My 2 cents
I decided to go ahead and register DFX a few months ago (I got the PowerPack deal) and I haven't been disappointed. I have a subwoofer connected to my machine and the Hyperbass is AWESOME. The Fidelity definitely makes a difference too. Combine this with the MAD MP3 plug-in, and it's just gorgeous.
