Machine Crash Latest Version With CD Burning

Post by Corprolite »

I posted this before, but nothing has resolved yet.

Here is the situation. With the lastest version of mediamonkey (registered user) I cannot burn CD's without locking up the machine and getting the blue screen (machine check error). I have tried unistalling mediamonkey and reinstalling and get same issue. I installed an older version (2.5.2.951) and have absolutely no problems with the burning, so something that changed from this version to latest is causing some kind of conflict.

Here is a description of the problem

From a group of songs, playlists, etc if I right click send to cd burn, the screen freezes for a few seconds and then goes to the blue screen. I have tried other ways to burn from the program (shift ctrl d) and under tools burn cd and same.

My system specs are below.

OS Name Microsoft Windows XP Professional
Version 5.1.2600 Service Pack 2 Build 2600

I cannot figure out how to run a debug log since the machine locks up prior immediately. It is my understanding from looking at the steps to run a debug log that the viewer needs to be able to save information as the bug occurs, but since the entire machine freezes I can't do that. Am I wrong in this assumption?

Also the file c:\hpCDE.log that is supposed to show up with cd burning issues isn't created before the machine freezes when I run the debug log. So no logfiles are created for this bug when I run the debug version

you metioned send to.

i wonder if you are getting this trouble from the same error with the memory of monkey's clipboard like is said in the
"getting send to error in xp" message thread.?

try selecting your songs draging them to a new playlist and see if they all go there. or if there is one song in the list that you did not even select?

it seems the memory is not cleared in monkey when using the right click and send to command. but draging and dropping songs in a playlist seems to clear it. if you get your songs in the playlist just use the too bar buttons and select all the songs then click the burn button on the menu bar.

see if that will burn it properly.?

It seems like a driver issue as blue screens on Windows XP are really rare.

Have you tried selecting files and use the menu Tools > Burn CD/DVD?

Okay, I tried roving cowboys suggestions with regards to creating new playlists and draging dropping them to burn. I have tried to burn from the file menu and tool bar with same crash. If I reinstall the previous version of media monkey then it works like a charm. Before posting today I also updated cd burner drivers (post crash) and tested burning through windows media player and through plain old windows explorer without any problems.

I'm not sure if there is anything more you can do as you can't create a debug report. Maybe some other users who had problems were able to create debug logs and send them to support.

that is strange.?

i re read the post and this time i read your system more carefully.

and i see you have an HP. computer.

should have looked at it before, but i did not sorry.

still the only thing i can say about help from hp is that it is almost does not exist..

you might find some help for this on lockergnome. forum ask about why hp cdrom drives can be seen by some media players but not others?

if they can not answer that.

you might look for a repair shop in the city of " Angola , Indiana "
there was a guy set up shop there 2 or 3 years ago where he specialized his repairs to only HP systems. i can't remember the name of the shop only that it was in that city. :-?

but he found no help for his hp system so he went to training for hp repair and other computers then set up an hp only repair shop.

he might beable to give you some help because it is sounding like a driver issue as lowlander said, and it just might be an hp one at that.

CD Burning problems

Post by rusty »

Corprolite,

Can you try burning a CD with the following test apps, and let me know if it is successful or if the error in question occurs?
http://www.mediamonkey.com/beta/testtoo ... msvc60.exe
http://www.mediamonkey.com/beta/testtoo ... msvc60.exe

These apps isolate burning functionality in MediaMonkey from other functionality, so if it works with this app, we'll have a better idea of where to look to solve the problem.

Thx.

I am having this exact same problem and I do not have an HP, so it certainly isn't an HP problem only.

I have a similar set up to Corprolite... Win XP Pro but with less memory.

No matter what method I use to burn it freezes the system, but I don't get any blue screen, mine just freezes and I cannot end MediaMonkey (via task manager and either through programs or processes) but it will pop up with "end now" it just doesn't work.
Also, the rest of my computer works... I can open the start menu and even restart the computer through it, but MM just doesn't respond.
Finally, for some reason or another when I go to burn my task bar shows 2 copies of MM open. I know I only opened one myself and I even have the "only allow one instance of MM" option selected but it says I have two.

Any help will be appreciated, until then I will use something else I guess.

Have you tried MM 2.5.4 beta (from beta forum here)?

I am having the exact same problem as you. It also appears that I have MM open twice, and it takes a long time to end the program when it is not responding. From what I have read, Nero could be a problem--do you have Nero on your PC?
