Help debugging freeze on burn initialization

Post by rusty »

Sleepy,

I don't believe I've received your debug logs. Can I ask you to also perform the following test?

Try burning a CD with the following test apps, and let me know if it is successful or if the error in question occurs?
http://www.mediamonkey.com/beta/testtoo ... msvc60.exe
http://www.mediamonkey.com/beta/testtoo ... msvc60.exe

These apps isolate burning functionality in MediaMonkey from other functionality, so it may help give us a better idea of where the problem lies.

Thx again.

Rusty,

I thought that I sent the debug logs by email on Tuesday. I'll double check when I get home. Maybe I used the wrong email address?

I'll run the other apps over the weekend and let you know.

Rusty, there were no problems with either AudioBurner or DataBurner. And, I re-sent the debug logs directly to you. Let me know if you don't get them.

The Audio CD and Data CD burn apps worked for me. (The .cda files burned seemed to be clipped a little on the front end....)

They both worked but were VERY slow.

The DataBurner took 20 minutes to prepare the burn. Burn time was normal.

The AudioBurner almost duplicated the MM issue. Took close to 40 minutes to drop the files. Normal burn. Had this not been a test I would have given up.

On both the hard drive light was on the entire time.

Bothe were VERY slow opening.

Just a couple comments which may not be relevant... I also noticed I have something called "HighMAT Extension to MS Win XP CD Writing Wizard" on my computer but I don't know what it is. I also have the impression during the "burn delay" that the engine is searching for the files to burn and I was wondering if, in my case, whether the fact that I have my library stored on an external USB hard drive could have any relationship to the problem. For the two tests, I didn't use my regular library but took music off my C: drive.

The HighMAT thing was a Windows update from a while back.

More tests to get to the bottom of this

Post by rusty »

If you've experienced the 'burn delay/freeze' problem with recent MediaMonkey builds, it would be much appreciated if you could perform the following tests:

1) Download the following, and unzip all contents of the archive to a single directory: http://www.mediamonkey.com/beta/testtoo ... er_199.zip

2) From the directory, test each of the following by double-clicking and observing whether it freezes on startup (there's no need to actually burn a CD):
AudioBurner2_msvc60.exe
AudioBurner2_Static_MD_msvc60.exe
AudioBurner2__static_MT_msvc60.exe
AudioBurner2U_msvc60.exe
AudioBurner2U_Static_MD_msvc60.exe
AudioBurner2U__static_MT_msvc60.exe

Once you're done with all six, please let me know the results.

Thx.

Unzipped all files to the same folder on the desktop. Tried to run each app but nothing happened - with any of them. On each app, the curser changed from "arrow" to "hourglass" for about five seconds, and then all was normal on the machine but no programs started.

I figured this was weird - better delete them all, download again and start over. Tried to delete the folder but it was in use!!! Each of the six had a process running in task manager (some had more than one). Task manager will not kill the processes.

So from my point of view, they all have the "freeze" problem.

Trying to log off "user" now... First came up ccApp.exe not responding (end now) then came up DIRECTCD.EXE (end now) then AudioBurner 2 (end now) and so on.....

I may get logged off soon.

Each of these apps has approximately a 3 minute delay upon launch. During that 3 minutes I'm unable to close the app using Task Manager or Process Explorer.

Everyone of those suckers locked my computer up. I waited about 5 minutes before cutting the power and rebooting.
