Genres, simplified

Post by Hooah »

I need help complining a list of genres. I want to get my genre tags up to date but need to compile a list so I can stay consitent. If anyone knows a good way of doing this for about 70,000 files I would be appreciative. Alot of my files have tags but they are sometimes to specific. I just want the basics. I was hoping I could get some help. I want only 20 and already have 19. Maybe if you could even refine this list and probably give some example artists. Like I said earlier, like most of the people here I enjoy a wide range of music and have a nice collection. So it needs to cover about everything.

Not sure if I would agree with the last part. I can not mentally put Disco, R&B or some Oldlies into Rock. Maybe it is because I am young.

Genre's is personal. Depending on your level of liking a genre you might have or not have subgenres of a genre.

You can check the forum for previous discussions about genre and check the website of the ID3 standard or sites like lastFM to see what genre's they have.

20 genre's would be really limited especially on 70,000 tracks. I find myself the more tracks the more genre's I like to use to better classify the different tracks.

If there was like an batch tagger for genres that would be great. But doing them by hand I would prefer the k.i.s.s method. Detailed genres is superior but requires more time.

You would need a source of genre information for batch operation.

Manually you can select any ammount of files and set the genre to the same genre.
