rap != wrap != crap

The fact that you don't like the music doesn't mean it's not a genre. That's just personal taste, few people like all music.

i have seen shows on how they make them music videos for rap.

the girls are all made to stand around in the clothes that are too tight for them causing their blood to stop going to their legs and most the time the are told to do the dance moves and they cant feel their legs.

also the one girl in the show said they are treated like 4th class citizens by the singers. she said she would not do another video no matter how much they paid her to be in it. and most the time they are not paid but given the chance to be in a video instead since the songs don't always make money.

and there is too many real world gangsters and murder's and drug dealers in the rap music industry so there is no need for me to like the crap they try and say is music just to support their illegal activites.

and did you ever notice the dance moves on all rap videos are all the same by every artist? whats with that ? they cant even think of any origanl moves for their song? well of course not why should they their songs all have the same noise so why not use the same dance moves.

most the lyrics are about hate and killing and drugs and abusing women.
which is another reason to not listen to the crap.

This is why I hate "genre's" and avoid them.

RAP is so general now anyway. I like all music and some rap.
I think there is a branch - gansta rap, that is what rovingcowboy is not to happy with, and the sub culture that surrounds it, but there are other rap and hip hop songs I really like, and I don't care what the music is, if there's is pretty girl moving around to it, I'm interested! :D

R&B

Any genre that defines itself not by the qualities of the music but the racial origin of the artist is completely useless to me.

That's not what R&B originaly was.

The Eagles, and America in the 70's were R&B

There's soundtracks and there's soundtracks.

I'd never use "soundtrack" for a movie score consisting of mostly classic rock, but if it's all one-note string tremoloes and what sounds like five-second snippets of 20th century classical music, "soundtrack" is a perfectly reasonable genre. I think the goal of "genre" is "select genre, hit play, have nothing break the mood".

The sad truth is that genre names are BEST defined by people who DON'T particularly care for a certain genre, not by fans.

For everyone who just doesn't like metal, period, there is no need for so many subtle gradations, especially if you have to actually know the band's intention and philosophy in order to sort it correctly.

Of course, MY library is full of genres like "bitter genius", "world plastic", "kill it!", "Cyrillic novelty", "selfparody", "freak", "difficult" ...

Richard Thompson, Las Ketchup, Bass Bumpers & Crazy Frog, Leningrad Cowboys, Connie Francis "Jive Connie Jive", Ronnie Ong, David Sylvian "Camphor" respectively, for those who care.
