Incomplete Synchronization!!!

Post by dbarona »

Hello,

I have a 1GB Creative Muvo N200 and i can only synchronize about 120 songs (~600-700MB), after it reaches that 'capacity' it seems to skip over the other ones. I have tried synchronizing with the device as a portable device as well as a USB mass storage device. I get exactly the same results, with the difference that as a USB mass storage device, MM shows an error "Problem with copying C:\...." for each song from there on that is not able to copy (which is every single one of the songs past this capacity). I have tried copying with MM just the other songs it seems to not be able to copy, but it copies them fine, so I know it's not a problem with the songs but with the synchronization itself. Often times i find myself having to do the synchronization with other programs, like Winamp or Windows Media Player, but that's not what we want happening, right?

I bet there's many more people out there experiencing the same problem.
(As a side note, i also have an ipod, and it synchronizes it perfectly, the same files and more, with no problems)

Thanks in advance for any help.

there is a windows memory error that shows up in editing and copying from folder to folder on the hard drive.

it sounds like it might be the same error for what your getting.

so many songs and stops.

mostly we just find that limit and use no more when copying songs.
which is what you said you found when you try to do the ones it can't copy in mass it does copy them in the smaller amount. this is trying to be taken care of.

but just in case it is not the same error do a bug report and send it to jiri or rusty and let them see what might be your error. 8)

From the description I'd say it isn't problem of MM, if MM writes that it can't copy tracks to the device, then it probably is impossible to write them. I had similar issues with SE W800 phone - after some tracks synchronized it kind of 'automatically disconnects' and I can't copy any more tracks to it (until it's reconnected again).

Didn't the W800 have some driver/formatting issues? I thought those needed to have a patch installed as well as be reformatted. If it's not a MM problem, then why can i still copy that same list of songs (to the device's full capacity) using any other program?

I don't know, you certainly can e-mail us a debug log, it should show some more info about the problem.

Jiri, I've e-mailed you a copy of the log for the drives seen as portable devices by media monkey. Let me know if you need more info.
Thanks again for your time...

Update

Post by dbarona »

Just a little update for this issue...

Jiri has been helping me out with this so we can determine what might be causing an incomplete synch on devices like mine. So far, the only way it seems to work perfectly is by not synchronizing all the songs to the root folder but to a folder structure (i used \artist\artist-title). I worked perfectly this way (on my Creative MuVo N200). I don't think there's really a reason at all to not do this (for this player).

Thanks all for all your help.

you mean you were not useing the folder system before you were just sticking them on the player under the root folder.

:o :-?

this makes me wonder if some portables are having limits to files on the root folder. like windows has limits for folders on the c:\ drive does that sound like something that would be going on.? if so

the it would be easy to fix just make monkey automaticly start a folder on the device for songs. :-?

yes windows did have a limit of 250 folders and files under the C:\ which is why there is a C:\Program Files\ folder. weather or not the limit is still there with winXp i don't know.

Yes, I was sending everything to the root for no particular reason... I was pretty much doing Copy-Paste or using a Send To command....

What you say is pretty much what Jiri mentioned in one of his e-mails. There's seems to be a limit for the amount of files/size to be occupied in the root folder of the player. The weird thing is that I have been able to put all my files directly on the root folder by other means (Explorer, Winamp and WMP 11).

However, I don't really mind the structure; it's not like I NEED to have my songs on the root. So for this player it doesn't really make a difference about which way I do it. I'll just have MM create the hierarchy so that it fills up the whole thing the way it's supposed to. If anything, it might actually be better...

Just an update.

The Muvo N200 will only read from about 10-15 folders, so when you synchronize, make sure you synchronize to not more than that. I used a <Artist@3>\<Artist> - <Title> structure, and it organizes everything into grouped folders of the first letter of each artist for 3 letters.... in other words, i have the following folders: 0-9, ABC, DEF, GHI.... and so on. It works perfectly.
