Suggestions for music file icons

Hello

These are some music file icon samples I made. Maybe other people want different icons too (because similar things have been asked in the past) so that's why I'd like your opinion on these.
So please, if you have any suggestions, comments, alternatives, ...... just let us know.
I'm not a graphical genius, that's one of the reasons I need your opinion. :)

The purpose is to make file type icons for the most common music file types (mp3, wma, ogg, aac, mp4, mp2, wv, ...). But off course also "general" icons can be made (without the extension in the icon).

Looks really good. However, I think that the biggest problem in icon creation is to make the smaller, 16x16 version. Would you try it? :wink:

Great idea!
I'll go for the first one. Clean and informative. My suggestion is to make the icons for the other formats in the same style but with a slightly different color.

I just lost the text of the post I was typing and I don't want to type everything again... so here's a short version:

32x32 is very easy (just 48x48 but resized)

16x16 needs another design. Probably the current (first) is the best.

The last is unreadable, but I never had the intention to make 16x16 type-specific icons. I almost never use 16x16...

Bex's idea (colors) is nice to identify different icons, especcially the 16x16 ones.

Please keep the suggestions coming :)

I like the idea of displaying the file type extension in the icon. But i see that it hardly is readable. Perhaps just display the first letter or even better, the last?
Wait, why not display the first and the last, if it fits and is readable?

What do you think?

The color change per format is nice, I would advice to include the MM logo in the bigger icons.

Do you mean together with the note?

Together, I think that would be a bit too much on one icon.

And I would like some consistency (so no small icon with a note and a large icon with a monkey).

But a combination of:

with
ImageorImage
might be nice (The "mp3" text can also be colored in respect with the file type of course).

BTW: The colored icons will certainly be made. I will probably make a lot of combinations, so everyone can be pleased a bit.

I would leave the small colored icons as they are and change the big ones to show the MM logo instead of the music note. Maybe you can use a color filter over the MM logo, but I don't know if that will look decent.
The MM logo would be good to use as it helps identify the application the file type is associated with. The small icons don't have enough space for filetype identification and the MM logo, so without MM logo is ok, but the bigger ones do have enough space so I would include it.

This icons look great. Of the 48x48 I like the second more! Although I think that different colors for different formats would be very useful, specially for the small icons. On the other hand we could also use the same small icon for all formats but different large icons, then we wouldn't need different colors...
