Transfering to Creative Zen MicroPhoto fails (Windows 2000)

I bought a Creative Zen Microphoto and transfering files works only partionally. It seems that the files are on the device (the files are shown in Mediamonkey and Windows Media Player 9) but the menu from the MicroPhoto won't show the album and artist.

For this test, i tried to upload Sting. First with Mediamonkey and then with Media Player 9. (I'm using windows 2000 with this: http://dmzweb4.europe.creative.com/SRVS ... =obj(8113) driver)
The files are transfered from Mediamonkey but they won't show in the menu from the MicroPhoto. Then the same files are transfered with WMP9. The first files are shown in WMP9 so i delete them first. After that, i re-upload the same files with WMP9. After uploading, the files are shown on my MicroPhoto.

try sync.. your tags on your songs in monkey.

and see if that will work. if not try clearing the id3 tags in the song file and re syncing them with monkey.

i have the same thing with zen micro some songs are not shoing the artist only lableing it to unknown.

it is only on a few songs for me. but sync.. in the tags should work.

The firmware is latest from the creative website.

I tried to sync and re-tried again today. How will the Zen MicroPhoto know the artist if i clean the id3 tags?

The Zen MicroPhoto doesn't show them at all. Not as unknown, not in the 'All Tracks' section. It seems as it doesn't see them at all.

If you look at the relevant sections, you'll see that MediaMonkey stores the files differently than Windows Media player. The 'layout' from Mediaplayer is much more simpeler than from MediaMonkey:

that is cause media monkey is better at tagging then most other players that use what they want and make their own tags.

monkey trys to stay with the standard tags.

in cleaning the bad id3 tags you must before you do that make sure all the information for each song is listed in media monkeys database.

then after you clean the tags you resync. the songs with monkeys library information which will put all the tags in the file to all the tags monkey has.

it should fix any bad or broken tags in the files. but if your not getting any of the names to show then there just might be some other error.

unless your the first one to have all the tags busted on all your songs?
but that tag fix mostly works? :-?


windows media player is a bad thing to compair with but if it is the only one that finds your info then that is what you have to use.
for compairing. and the way ms is changing things to go with the new system they just might have made an update that busted the connection with monkey.

but try doing a debug log with monkey's debug program and send it to jiri or rusty to find the error.

this log you posted don't look like one from monkey's debug log program.

Robbo, you might want to create a debug log as described in the bug forum. And also include these logs in your debug log.

Or wait here on the forum for someone who knows about this type of issue. But device issues tend to take long to get solved here on the forum due to the lack of knowledgable users in the portable device area.

yep i agree which is why i told him to do a debug report.

since even you can't answer it, lowlander.

the most i can to with it is try to see if its the same as errors i got with mine. and when i found it is not then i tell them to do a debug report.
which would find the error faster since it seems to be something new dealing only with the zen micro photo.

It might be worthwhile doing a disk cleanup on the player, or even a disk format (after backing up all tracks and photos!). I've read on other forums where this has helped. Also, Media Player 10 seems to give better results for syncing. If you don't want to upgrade your system, try transferring some tracks on system that has WMP10 installed.

First of all, thanks for all responds. It's good to see that there's an active community for MediaMonkey I have confidence we can find a solution for the syncing problems.

I used Exact Audio Copy and Lame to create the MP3's from my CD. I doubt that the tags are wrong after that. I Arranged, cleaned, re-put tags with mediamonkey on some old MP3's. MediaMonkey is the easiest program that i've seen to do that. Thats why i hope to get it to work with my Zen MicroPhoto.

Yeah. I'm worried that i have to keep using it. It's afwful! No tree to find albums. Everything in one long list.

Here's what i'm planning to do:

1) find a Windows XP machine with WMP10 and install MediaMonkey on that. Then i'll try to sync with that combination to see if it's OS related.

2) I'll make a debug log with the debug program. Should i send it to (jiri/ rusty) or shall i post it here? The thread is getting log with all these logs already..

Well, syncing with WMP9 works but the interface is so bad! I had a peek on WMP10 and it seems that there isn't a tree of albums in there either. I'll try WMP10 in step 1 above.

I made a debuglog on my Windows 2000 machine. The interested can find it here:

I'll mail it tomorrow after i tried the same on a Windows XP machine.

The debuglog seems fine. I don't see any errors. It looks if the files are transfered and when i use Mediamonkey i see that they are on the machine. The Zen Micro doesn't recognize them though :(

yes it is looking like wmp9 is taking short cuts through the other software of ms's to find some info and make it work, but what the shortcuts are is not known.
but how else can they get less infomation in the report and have the same info on the portable that monkey has in the report he makes ?

only by taking some unknown short cut is all i can think of?


no don't bother the wmp9 dev's.

lets just get it working on the monkey jiri and rusty can get it working with the debug report you sent them it should show what is going on

My guess is that if you don't provide tag-information, the Zen has to extract them from the MP3 file itself. So in this case, it would be good to provide no tags at all.
