Filter, Tag Editor Improvements

Post by Jaro »

Dear MM-Team,
thanx a lot for this nice program!
Some suggestions derived from 2 best competing products "Dapyx MP3 Explorer" (i lizenzed but developer is afk for 2 years now) and "MP3 Tag" (nice german project). Both programms have lots of limitations, i do not like. But at moment state, i have to work with 3 programms to sort, tag, play, and rate my files. This is annoying.
I hope you can do it. Would pay up to 40$ for that.

* Tag Editor:
1. a fixed permanent toolbar for tag editor (perhaps on right side of the screen). The right click is annoying and the flooting tag bar (Ctrl+Alt+P) is only for 1 entry.
2. if you select more than one entry, you should could choose Tags from a selection list, where only the selected entries are consulted. (in MP3 Tag it is realized and it is very comfortable).
At moment state the MM-Tag Editor is very large-functioned (nice!!), but it is not comfortable at all compared to "MP3 Explorer" and "MP3 Tag".

* Filter
E.g. Dapyx MP3 Explorer has a vertical toolbar with Filter "On/Off" and the following categories Name, Artist, Title, Album, Comment (missing is the rating tag). It is like your search function but (sorry) better. Because you can e.g. look for Artist beginning with "A" and Title with "De" and get the results immediatly. If not satisfied you can simply click on "off" to deactivate the filter.

*Tag conversion
E.g. Dapyx MP3 Explorer has saved rating in Tag "Quality" (shown in MM under "Classification: Quality". Is it possilbe to convert this ratings to MM-ratings?

Thanks a lot!
Greetings, Jar.

Tag editor:
I somewhat agree with you. Perhaps the upcoming 3.0 will have some improvements in this area?

Filter:
Check out Auto-Playlists (Gold feature)

Tag conversion:
If you can export M3U-Playlists from Dapyx MP3 Explorer. You can export one playlists per rating. Import them into MM and massupdate the rating per playlists in MM.

1 -- if you choose View | Properties the tag editor stays open no matter which song you choose (unlike the other behavior from a right click, which only stays open for one song)

yeah...i hadn't noticed either.

While reading the thread it occurred to me that maybe you can choose what fields do you want to see on the first tab of the properties dialog: most people only care about some fields (instead of all the fields) so maybe a customizable first tab ('My Fields') wold be VERY appreciated (at least here).

That way i could edit easily the fields I use instead of changing to another tab...what do you think? (also...it shouldn't be to hard to implement)
Cheers, judas

I also think it would be fine if the properties dialog could be docked like other panels.

i noticed it and as i have written:
flooting tag bar (Ctrl+Alt+P) is only for 1 entry. So, you can also change 1 entry and then the next. This is not satisfying. Also the right-click editor is not satifsying (compared to the Dapyx or the MP3tag.

still no multitag-feature

Post by Jaro »

Hm I am still missing a multitag feature in MM3, like in mp3tag or dapyx mp3. ;-(.
So if I want to tag more than 1 file at once, I still have to change the program. If vidcast support and multitagging would be supported, I would immediatly buy this great programm

^ It DOES support mass edit! Just select a bunch of tracks, right-click over them, choose Properties, edit the fields you want and press OK.
It's done!

try to compare it with dapyx or mp3 tag. You will see, that in these programms with a fixed toolbar with pre-defined choices it is much more comfortable (besides in all other belongings, mm3 is unbeatable). ,-)

new idea:
how is it possible to few more file types in the database: like avi, mpeg
(please don't link me to "VID4wa Video Plug-in", because it is buggy with MM3)?
Than I could use mediaplayer classic for all vid-files. Would be an enhancement.
