Trying to connect my MP3 player to my car stereo

Hey there

I'm trying to connect my Toshiba Gigabeat player to my car stereo system. Does anyone know any way of doing this besides using the FM transmitter? The audio is shit through one of these.

It's not all that bad if you get a good quality transmitter...

However, your stereo system will need to have some form of aux input otherwise.
Some older steros without a CD drive have a plug for CD input, which you can use, newer ones >may< have an MP3 player input, otherwise you're probally out of luck.

It depends. My car still has a cassette player, so I just use a cassette adapter. Some car stereos have a "line-in" jack. Those are the only ways I know of besides the FM Transmitter.

Some car stereos has an usb jack. I have two car stereo systems. One has a "line-in" jack the other has nothing so I use a FM transmitter.

FM transmitters vary in sound quality. I have no issues, but I live in an area with only a few FM radio stations. If you live in an area with more stations quality might become an issue (look for a transmitter with many frequencies). You might also want to search online for any mods that can be done to your current car stereo to allow to connect an portable music player (often stereo model and iPod gives good results). Some stereos have connections for a CD changer or cassette player in the back that can be modified to a line in connection.
Otherwise consider replacing your car stereo with a stereo with line in connection or one with MP3 storage capabilities.

I am looking to do the same thing. I use a cassette adapter in my car, and an FM transmitter in my truck, and I'm not happy with either. ( for the cassette, the wire hanging out of the stereo + the drive motor is constantly running; poor sound for the FM transmitter)

I was looking at crutchfield.com and found adapters that plug into the CD port of the factory radio. The customer reviews on them appear to be very good. The adapters are a bit pricey, though.

These adapters are make/model specific, so click on "car accessories" then on "outfit my car" on the menu bar.

but on batteries it runs out fast. ? 4 hours i think ?

there is more free channels headed to the public use.
but that won't happen here in the usa until every television
channel is broadcasting in HD.
then all the old channels will be released for police and other use.

I'm missing part of the story here - why would you do this? Can't you just connect the player to the computer, or use MM and the songs on the computer?
