Wait for MM3 or go with Songbird?
Guys, Im a Gold user, lifetime licence but am getting impacient waiting for MM3. (what is the ETA by the way?) Songbird looks very interesting.
Can those of you in the know tell me the main differences, advantages of MM3 over Songbird etc It looks very cool indeed.
Cheers.

Songbird looks ok, but not great in my opinion. It has copied iTunes in a bad way. The only good thing I can say about Songbird is that it is cross-platform. I don't think it surpasses MM2 in any case, and definately not MM3. However, there might be better times for that program, although I don't think it deserves the publisity it has gotten from various media.
Best regards,

From what I've seen (sorry, not very much), Songbird looks promising and is probably "spectacular" but has a long way to go for some very basic stuff.
Extensions: ExternalTools, ExtractFields, SongPreviewer, LinkedTracks, CleanImport, and some other scripts (Need Help with Addons > List of All Scripts).
Songbird looks like its going to be a hit to me but its a way away from even hitting version 1. I predict its going to take off for some of the same reason firefox did. Once its out its going to have a whole lot of developers behind it creating extensions, and add ons for everything you could ever imagine. More than likely alot of the same firefox extensions developers will focus on songbird.
As most people have said so far, Songbird is not even at version one yet and there are some features missing, for example, tag editing. When you edit tags, it's only updating the Songbird database, but not the tags themselves which can be a real pain in the rear end.
Songbird also seems to require more resources to run and appears more "sluggish" to me when dealing with files on a networked drive, which is my situation.
Songbird does have some cool abilities, such as being able to extract from all web pages any music files on there and providing them as an easy to navigate playlist.
Songbird searches better since to me it appears that MM only searches in discrete tag fields... that is, if I search for "Led Zeppelin Stairway", I would not find the song I want since "Led Zeppelin" is in the artist field and "Stairway" is in the title field. If I search for "Stairway to Heaven" I would find it in MM... Songbird doesn't seem to have that problem. Maybe it's an option in MM but I haven't found it and would have expected it to search that way by default.
MM however does appear to have a better user interface in that I can navigate through my library with ease and even do some simple file management directly in MM without going through Windows Explorer for example.
I myself am in the process of finding the right piece of software to manage my vast music library and am evaluating MM to see if I should purchase the Gold version or go with another piece of software. I would need Gold because File Monitoring is something I definitely need... but so far MM seems faster and less resource intensive than Songbird and also seems more stable.
If only the MM developers would add a DAAP and/or UPnP server component to MM I would be instantly sold, even if the search improvement is off in the future.

I don't think so. This has been discussed more than once in the forum.

Doubtful... I would have guessed September 2007Hooah wrote:29 August 2009Anonymous wrote:Can anyone tell me when the final 3.0 version of MM is going to be released?

well most the time in mm 2 they have been either released around july or december. but they were started off as beta test versions not alpha. so this might just go until december
just in time for christmas gifts.
