[Fixed RC2] Mystery "Various" node under Album Art

Post by MDominik13 »

I'm seeing something odd under this node. There is a node called "Various" and a node called "Various Artists". If I look under the "Various" node, I see a ton of songs that are not tagged as just "Various" (some have actual artist names). I did a scan of my library and found that I actually only have one song where the artist is tagged as "Various".

Why are other songs showing up under this "Various" node? Also, I just noticed that the same issues occurs under the "Album Artist" node.

So what does the the album artist field contain in these songs?

The "Various" node contains a ton of my albums where "Various Artist" is the "Album Artist" (Artist varies) as well as a few albums that are by a single artist where the "Album Artist" and "Artist" are the same (3 Doors Down - Seventeen Days, Aerosmith - Ultimate Hits, and others...).

I have one song in my entire collection where "Various" is used and it's only in the "Artist" field ("Album Artist" is "Hans Zimmer"). This song doesn't even appear under the "Various" node.

Is there a way for me to put a trace on the database so I can determine what query is being run to populate this node?

It looks like the "Various" artist is being automatically created if the one artist tag within an album differs from the others.

Is this correct? If so, can this be turned off? If the album has a legitimate Album Artist set, it shouldn't be overridden.

I thought I had this sorted out by going in and setting the album artist again (not changing it... just rewriting the tag info). By doing this, the "Various" node disappeared from my tree. However, I recently rescanned my library and the node has reappeared.

Once again, I have a ton of tracks that have an album artist set that are being listed in the tree as "Various".

Anyone have any ideas at all? Am I the only one with this issue?

I am having trouble as well with "Various Artist". I have 100+ various artist albums properly tagged. Under "Various Artist" it does list all the albums but not on the tree.

I haven't tried a rescan, by the time I finish the scan MM B4 will be out :D

Handling of tracks with different Artist/Album Artist

There are definitely a few bugs in this area. We're working on them.

FYI - This is still an issue in Beta 4. The Album Artist node is not building the tree off of the album artist field.

I have cleared and rescanned my DB and the issue is still there in RC-1. Is this even being looked at? Will it be fixed before the official release?

Please show us a screenshot of your issue. Make sure that both the Artist And the Album Artist of the tracks are displayed.

In my case this seems to work as it should.

Things I've noticed:
1) This only occurs when the ARTIST field for an album has at least one name different than the rest. For example, in the screenshot below, "Guilt" has an ARTIST of "The Bee Gees;Barry Gibb;..." while the rest of the tracks on the album are all "The Bee Gees".
2) If I were to select all tracks on one of the albums and just check the box to reset the ALBUM ARTIST, it will remove thme from the "Various" node.
3) Rescanning the library will result in the fixed tracks being placed back into the "Various" node.

Here's a screenshot:

Mystery 'various' node

Post by rusty »

MDominik13,

I've been unable to replicate this as well, but it does look as though there is a problem. Can you send me a a fresh copy of your db? (i.e. scan your drive (don't upgrade from 2.5) , close MM, and send me the DB.).

Also, if possible, can you send me the tracks from the Album in question? (best to send all this via yousendit.com).

Note: on XP the DB is at:
C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Local Settings\Application Data\MediaMonkey\MM.DB

If I list all the tracks the Various Artists appear
but If I goto the Various artists node - they are not there

I have posted this before - but did not explain myself very well

If I can help with data - I will

Thanks

Rusty - I just sent a zip file to you which contains my DB as well as all tracks from one album for which the issue occurs.

Another note on the issue:
* These albums are also listed incorrectly under the Albums node. The artisit in parenthesis is also listed as "Various"

Let me know if you need anything else.

Thanks,
Mike
