Hotkey triggers when editing tag

Post by PolarBear2k »

Hey,

I mapped Space bar to Play/Pause now I can't enter a space when I'm editing a tag (inline or even in file properties), instead the music pauses or resumes.

Space bar for play/pause

We're not planning on fixing this. It's best not to create single key hotkeys for this reason.

I've been looking for a new music manager app to replace iTunes. I came across some comparitive reviews that were very favorable towards MediaMonkey. However, after taking a closer look, running into this issue, and then seeing that there was no intention of correcting it - I am scrapping MediaMonkey from my list of apps to consider.

It's a shame, and I don't understand why there is such resistance to addressing this issue - it seems to be common sense that the way MM is currently set up to work with hotkeys is significantly flawed. But until and unless hotkeys are properly supported, MM is not the app for me.

Just my two cents.

rusty said single hotkeys meaning one key doing two jobs.
you can map out different keys to do each job and leave the space bar alone. 8)

Well, that's just it - I want to set up single key hotkeys, but not have that interfere with normal use of those keys (i.e. in a text field). And that includes the use of the space bar as the play/pause key.

Then why do you have it in the hotkeys section: Playback: Play/Pause? That's a single key, no?

I have to assume that this post was made well before the current iteration of hotkeys in MM3. Since I can use my multimedia keyboard for just that purpose, Play/Pause, I don't think this statement holds true any longer. I'm guessing that the spacebar/editing issue is a bug since I can use another single key to do just the same thing, Play/Pause, albeit a non-editing key.

Any chance we can get an official response then as to whether this is now being supported, but MM has a bug which will be fixed - or if there is still no intention to address this?

That's the old post I was referring to. I'm sure Jerand is looking for an updated response. It does seem contradictory to allow single hotkey configurations in the program but then not allow certain keys to utilize them. At best, if this is indeed the intended behavior, the help files and tooltips should be updated with what keys are or are not allowed as hotkeys for toggled functions.

It's not just toggled functions. If you set up the left and right arrow keys to control previous track and next track, and then use them in a text box (such as the Find dialog), you have the same issue.

For the Space bar this problem will be fixed in the next release. i.e. Space bar will no longer trigger a hotkey while editing/quicksearching.

Ludek.
