split up forum?

Post by rovingcowboy »

okay some time ago i seem to remember a thread that wanted the forum split up? maybe it was there, maybe i just thought it was there?

but i can't find it now.

so here is my take on this subject as it stands now, this near to the new release version.

there should be a split made in the forum. not a complete split.
but just one room added to the forum called.
something like.

" MediaMonkey 2.5.5 and older versions Forum "

the same moderators would be in there as in the other forum rooms. its just that this way when the new version is out everyone will still beable to direct their questions for needed support to the proper version's forum.

this would only have to be kept up until the release of mm 3.1.0 that way the users of mm 2.5.5 would have time to slowly convert to the mm 3 version.

some can convert to it the day its released. but others might have to save to get a bigger computer cpu or more ram, or a new computer with a new os.
I'm not saying that it will take that to work.
but it just will work with more positive results having those upgrades.

and there are those in some places that to buy that stuff they might as well be buying the british's royal castle. or some other such high priced building.

so i think it would be just a nice idea to give those users an forum room where they would not have to wade through posts dealing with mm 3 when they don't have that version yet.

so how about it what does anyone else think. is now the time to make this forum room or don't you think it should be made at all? :-?

I don't believe its necessary to split the forum any further than it already is.

Many people will continue to use mm2 as well as more people start using mm 3 over time, they are similar enough that as long as folks remember to specify which version they are using that others can help them out as needed.

I imagine that eventually mm 2 usage will drop and so then will the amount of mm 2 related questions.

I just don't see any reason to separate them into different forums.

Thats my opinion anyway.

On this suggestion, I think I side with rovingcowboy.

I agree with what your saying Teknojnky and your right about how eventually MM3 will grow and MM2.5 reduce in user numbers.

But I think that will be a slow process and in the meantime those that choose to continue using MM2.5 may want to also continue to write scripts or develop skins etc and so having a separate heading in the areas that are appropriate such as Art, Scripts and Help would be tidier.

No one loves MM more than I do, and I have to say I am surprised that I am not excited (yet) about what I have seen of MM3 so I would be one user who would be continuing to use MM2.5 and would appreciate any improvements to this software.

I don't think this would be detrimental to MM's development or MM3's take-up, as has already been stated, there are so many functual similarities between the two, for the next year or so having bilateral development albiet one official and one unofficial, would not be a bad thing IMHO.

I might love my Monkey More than you love your monkey...

But, it would be nice to see more headings for MM3 other than "Beta Testings". Such as: "MediaMonky3, Need Help", "MediaMonkey3 Scripts & Add-Ons", etc...

It does get a little tiresome reading "What Version of Media Monkey are you using...."

Good idea rovingcowboy.
I'm a bit sick of sorting thru a 100 or more threads a day when I'm currently only interested in 2.5.5 issues.
What's worse, some of the threads just assume you know they relate to v3
