[Fixed RC6] MicroPlayer 'lagging'/unresponsive [4203]

Post by TwiztidSinz »

when I have MM3RC5 in micro mode and I skip a track, the next track starts playing no problem but the player "lags" and becomes unresponsive for ~2 seconds at which point the track info window pops up and then it becomes responsive again.
If I restore MM to the regular window, the unresponsiveness goes away.

Has anyone else noticed it?
I have cross-fading off

[Edit: Changed B5 to RC5, whoops :-P]

Responsiveness

Post by rusty »

I don't see any difference between the main window and the microplayer.

What I do see though is that, on track change, MM starts playing right away BUT the pop-up is delayed for a couple of seconds. Looking into this.

that what i see rusty i thought you planed that ?

the only lagging i see is in the av effects in the mini/ float player. but that might be caused by the debug reporting code.?

When I press Next while in Micro (the Minimized to Taskbar one) the song does play right away... but:
1). the pop-up is delayed about ~2 seconds.
2). MediaMonkey will not respond during those ~2 seconds -- I could hammer away at the Next button (either the skin's button or my Media Keyboard button) and nothing will happen.
Neither of those happen in previous versions under Vista, but I'm running XP SP2 now (awaiting the reported performance boots of SP3) so maybe it was a "bug" of Vista then?

Come to think of it, there was a SMALL delay on the popup when I used it under Vista before, but it was always less than 1 second and not very noticeable.

Non-responsiveness

Post by rusty »

Btw, are you sure that this behaviour is new in MM? I did a bit of testing and it seems to be a sound driver issue. (try reseting crossfading, disabling hardware acceleration, and see if the problem goes away).

Also, if you have a minute, please confirm whether the problem really doesn't exist in earlier builds.

Thx.

I'm sure that this is new in MM3RC5.

Using RC5 with the following settings all yeilds the same delay while in Micro Player mode
Hardware Acceleration ON, Crossfading ON
Hardware Acceleration ON, Crossfading OFF
Hardware Acceleration OFF, Crossfading ON
Hardware Acceleration OFF, Crossfading OFF

I installed MM3RC4 to a separate folder to test and in RC4 the delay is gone allowing me to skip songs as soon as it starts to play and the tooltip shows nearly instantly. I have even gone as far as to make sure every setting is the same between RC5 and RC4 (down to the skin), and cannot replicate the delay while using RC4.

I made a video of my desktop using software to show it, but unfortunately it doesn't record the tooltip window.
If a video showing what happened would help, I could probably record my desktop with a camera and show you.

Thanks :-D

Hate to be a bother but...

I noticed that you mentioned CPU Spike in your reply topic, same for the reply in the other thread about crossfading.
I would just like to add that the issue I'm describing doesn't seem to be related to crossfading -or- CPU usage spikes, though I could be wrong.

RC5 use between 17 and 32 (high and low of 11 skip tracks) averaging about 23(.27)% CPU usage when I skip a track, this is with a base idle of 3~6% CPU useage. This is consistent with what I've seen from WMP11 and iTunes as well as RC4 which does not show that problem.

I hope I am wrong in my assumption and that the two problems are related and share a common and easy solution.

Thanks for all the help, and such a wonderful product.

The spike/unresponsiveness isn't related to crossfading on my end. I have it (and tried both hardware accel. on and off) and it only halts when I turn the tooltip display on.

As it's getting ready to display, and while it's showing/fading out my computer stalls.

No longer 'lags' between tracks in RC6
