I'd personally like to see avatars supported though it would also be nice if there was an option to turn them off. Some folks like 'em. Some don't.

Yeah, I'd be a nice option for the forum. There'd obviously be limitations on the size (both dimensions and filesize) so I don't think bandwidth would really be a problem.
Download my scripts at my own MediaMonkey fansite.

Yeah I like them, they offer a light hearted insight into the person behind the post...

As indicated in discussion - mixed opinion.
With the idea to turn avatars on or off for personal / bandwidth considerations both sides of opinion can be appeased - a good idea I reckon!
Likewise avatars can be static images only - I am not fussed about seeing r2-d2 breakdancing or the like but as paulmt notes they offer a lighthearted insight into the person and (imo) break up the drab look of forum sites. Moreover they offer more instatnt recognition to particular postees.....
As for avatar abuse - I see no reason why this should happen. Either set the forums ruling to discourage this OR - should certain types enjoy that so much
- Give them their own folder ('playground') to do so.
