Splash Crash
I've been using MediaMonkey for years now and a while back purchased a Gold license. Recently I changed the drive letter of the external drive containing all my music. MediaMonkey crashed on the next startup. I presumed this was due to the drive letter change and so uninstalled and reinstalled. Upon launching I get the splash screen and a taskbar button saying '37. Nine Inch...' (Nine Inch Nails) and it freezes there. I've tried CCleaner, registry cleaners, deleting directories and even installing in new directories with older versions but the same thing happens regardless. Seems to me it's still looking for the last track I played and crashing when it doesn't exist there. Also, tried putting the drive letter back to what it was previously but this didn't help either. I'm not sure what else to try. Windows Media Player and other such programs work fine.
Re: Splash Crash
Did you install a new version as well?
If so you might want to try change the d_iphone.dll in the Program Files/MediaMonkey/Plugins folder to d_iphone.dll.off which works for some users.
If you want to do a complete reinstall to rule out any old settings/plugins/scripts causing this issue you can uninstall MediaMonkey and then delete the Program Files/MediaMonkey and C:\Documents and Settings\<USERNAME>\Local Settings\Application Data\MediaMonkey\ (Windows XP) or C:\Users\<USERNAME>\AppData\Local\MediaMonkey\ (Windows Vista) to get rid of all components of MediaMonkey.
After that you can install MediaMonkey again.
If you feel your Now Playing is the issue you can delete MediaMonkey.m3u from the MediaMonkey user folder.

Re: Splash Crash
maybe you messed up your drive id number when you changed the drive letter?
try bex's script to get the drive id changed.
or clean the library with the option on the monkeys file drop down menu.

Re: Splash Crash
I have the exact same problem. The app hangs on splash screen. It doesn't crash when I rename the iPhone.dll to off, but as I went gold to use this to synchronize to my iPhone 3G it kind of defies the point for me.
Anyone have a workaround for the app crashing on the splash screen when the problem is related to the iPhone.dll, without disabling the iPhone.dll?
It works on my work computer running XP, but not on my Vista Ultimate installation on my laptop.
Thanks.

The issue is related to a corrupt Quicktime installation, try to uninstall quicktime then reinstall the latest quicktime.COCPORN wrote:I have the exact same problem. The app hangs on splash screen. Re: Splash Crash
It depends on the iPod, but for the newer models iTunes has to be installed. (including iPhone)Thanks! wrote: BTW, is MediaMonkey supposed to be able to see the iPhone without iTunes beind installed?![]()

Re: Splash Crash
Hi,
I also had this problem recently - MM freezes on the splash screen - and as someone already mentioned the problem seems to be a corrupt Quicktime Install.
However, in my case i think this was caused by a program call MPCSTAR. This is a small mediaplayer that i'd installed which also installs a whole bunch of codecs. MM ran fine when this was installed. However, when i uninstalled MPCSTAR it removed all the codecs and this is what seems to have corrupted Quicktime, which in turn broke MM.
The fix : Uninstall Quicktime. Uninstall MM and all components. Reinstall MM. Never Install MPCSTAR!
Hope this helps.
Cheers,
G.

Re: Splash Crash
Hey, I also just had this problem. MediaMonkey was playing fine until I uninstalled Quicktime (I had installed iTunes to synch with an iPod, but found MediaMonkey to be much easier to use, and I also never used Quicktime because I have a huge codec pack for WMP) after which MM crashed. It also wouldn't start up again after, hanging on the splash screen.
Installing just Quicktime on its own seems to have fixed this.
It seems you must have some base of Quicktime installed (not necessarily iTunes) to run MM.

Re: Splash Crash
Not necessarily, you can also remove the iPhone.dll plugin and MM will start up without it (and in MM3.1 you can run MM without any quicktime installed and with regular iPhone plugin).Guest wrote:

Theres also the option to install Quicktime lite rather than quicktime.
