auto-conversion to ogg format

Post by littlerm »

When auto-converting my 256kb mp3 files to 64kb ogg files for a sd card, the original tag information is not transferred over to the new ogg files. If a transfer is done to a lower bitrate mp3 or wma the tag information is copied correctly, so it's only a problem when converting to the ogg format.

Great work so far!

oohh boy.. is that a small ogg file. off hand i would say the info was cut out of the file just to get it that small.?

that is not sounding any better then 96 kb mp3 file. and you are really taking a chance on messing up some songs.

the only format i would even think of going that low in is wma.

take a chance and make it a 128 kbs ogg file instead of the 64 kb one. and see if the info is put in at that size. :-?

I just tried converting to 256kbs OGG files and the tag information is still missing.

By the way, when I said I was converting to 64kb I meant 64kbs (kilobits per second). sorry for the confusion.

I think rowingcowboy understood that it is kb\s, so you should read his post again

Converting from mp3 to OGG at any bitrate will lose tag information. I seriously doubt the tag information is being dropped to help with file size, it is very little data to store, and other formats retain the tag information.

Ok I discovered that if I use the "Copy to Portable Device" button then the id3 information is not copied over to the converted file. However, if I use the "Send To..." method and select my card's drive letter to send it to my card (with conversion) then the id3 information is copied correctly except for album art.
